The best sunscreens are in Europe. A lot of the sunscreens in the US aren't too great. --> Reason: Most US sunscreens only protect against UVB rays (causes burning) and not UVA (causes tanning) and as you know, both are equally damaging. However, in the past two years or so, better sunscreen formulations have been put into the market.
Two products that I can recommend that protect against both UVA and UVB are:
Neutrogena's Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch SPF 55 (and only the SPF 55 because the SPF 30 and 45 have terrible formulations)
and L'Oreal's La Roche Posay SPF 15 Moisturizer
^ L'Oreal's La Roche Posay was just recently put into the US market and its great because it contains Mexoryl (Ecamsule), which is wonderful UVA filter.
As far as I know, most stores now carry Neutrogena's SPF 55 and where I'm at, the store CVS carries La Roche Posay.

I have have been in the same situation as you, I recommend you use the sunscreen from MAC. I'm not sure if you where thinking about something for just your face, but if it is then I do recommends this product. If you are looking for an all over sunscreen then I recommend you just buy the ones they sell at Target, Wal-Mart.....etc. They tend to be more inexpensive and they do the same job, but for your face I do recommend the MAC, GOOD LUCK!!

Your best bet is to cover up in clothing.... wide brim hat, and long sleeves... and stay out of the sun.
