Yikes, my husband and I were just talking about that this a.m.
I use the bus occasionally, and mentioned that it is turning into a real circus. First, everyone has a different ring tone or tune, then they raise their voices (that is when you can hear they are talking about NOTHING important. It is not just one or two people. I don't know how the drivers can stand it.

First of all, I don't usually yell. I tend to be as quiet and discreet as possible, so that noone can understand my conversation. But I have to admit that every once in a while, I do yell on the phone under special circumstances. For instance, when u have bad signal, or there a noisy background on the other end of the line or maybe it's so noisy around you and that you can barely hear him/her, people whether they realise it or not, people have the tendency to speak "louder". People would think that the other end could not hear him/her either. So that's why they raise their voice.
But there are other reasons too, like: they are in an argument (people would ignore his/her sorroundings when angry), the other side couldn't hear him/her so they ask him/her to speak louder, or there are people who are generally loud.....LOL

There are many possible reasons.
- There is noise around them or the person they are talking to.
- They are talking to someone who doesn't hear well or possibly don't hear well themselves (people who hear badly tend to speak louder than most others because they can't hear themselves).
- Some people haven't realized that phones have developed and become better than before. (I remember the times when one had to nearly shout into NMT phones.)
- Some people just don't realize when they're talking too loud.
I don't like it when people talk really loud in public, whether they're talking on the phone or not, but I understand that it's sometimes necessary so I just don't pay much attention to it.

John Stossel on ABC 20/20 had one special report about how people becoming rude while using their cellphones in public. Here is the link -
http://abcnews.go.com/2020/US/story?id=1574155
The quick fix can be:
1. Check grocery list or search recipe website while going shopping. It's practical.
2. Listen to music with cellphone instead of talking.
2. Make a defined area in public for people who like to talk on the cellphone to join the "choir."

You gotta understand that cell phones or mobile phones are a fairly new conception, to the ones that are shouting into them. It does suprise me sometimes to find that they aren't looking for the cranking handle to connect to an operator. You gotta excuse arguments over the phone though, now we do have this freedom to phone from anywhere, its easy to forget where you are when in the heat of an argument.
