in groups but our refusal to believe in the supernatural is a defining characteristic.

I was curious. Usually "believer" they reserve for believers of the Christian "God". Being a Pantheist, it is hard to fit in between "Believer" and "Non-Believer". Anyhow....

I think that most Atheists are very well rounded spiritually. They take responsability for their action, they think for themselves, they are kind to those who don't attack them first.
I don't think they are as concerned with the fact that other people do or do not "believe", as they are about how a group of believers ideas can violate other peoples basic human rights. Maybe this is why, many of the Pro-Earth religions get along so well with the Atheists, because we don't want to restrict anyones personal rights and freedom.

I have also been told by Atheists, that IF there were "God", it would make more sense to believe it only exists inside us and all of nature. It's just a less offensive belief than the Big Daddy in the Sky theory.

Blessed Be...our Mother Earth and all her children! ; )

There seem to be two kinds of atheists (at least in my experience). The first kind have had either some horrible event happen that made them believe that there couldn't be a good God, or they were turned away from religion by people who were strict practitioners who seemed to follow the law, but have no joy for life in them. The second kind of atheists I've met are people who believe that if something cannot be proven with scientific evidence, it isn't valid. Both types of the atheists I've met deny the supernatural.

I believe in the supernatural. And I am spiritual- not religious. Just to let you know!

I think Atheists are more or less looking for information on other religions as with everything else. Some of the Atheists are not the nicest people to the other side (i.e. Christians), but at the same time, how nice are we to them? As Christians you should want to treat others with respect so that you can receive respect in return. BUT- this is just my 2 cents... Have a nice day! :)

*I suppose you are right about the Liberatarian thing. Not fully, but I suppose I am more that than Democrat... Huh, never thought of it that way!

Thank you for bringing up a valid point here. But this goes the same way for any organization. As Christians, we may be unified in the fact that we love God. But after that, everyone is unique in not only our beliefs but in our other characteristics as well.

Atheists are people who don't believe in God, and it saddens me when I hear a lot of their comments about God. I respect that you choose not to believe. But it really saddens me when I see some of the comments about God here on this forum. Some of them state that if God would come and perform some miracles in front of them, then MAYBE they would believe. What saddens me about this is how disrespectful they come off in that case. You see, they treat God as nothing more than a trained animal who is supposed to be lesser than they are and come down and do what they command. If He does not grovel and perform on command, then he is not worthy of their belief? I doubt that these people would expect that of any famous or high ranking person so why treat God as nothing more than a puppy dog?

Thank you for your question, and that is my biggest complaint. Now maybe I'm lumping people together with my above comment, but it is something that more than one atheist has claimed.

But I do agree, that you are all unique individuals with just this issue in common. Thanks for reminding us of that fact.

I have no problem with the atheist. I only disagree with his or her opinion.
Why do you have to attach their belief system in your question to what I think about them as a person.
I like plenty of gay and lesbian people for their personality - even though I do not agree with their opinion about se*ual orientation, does not mean I cannot talk to them.
For example, I choose not to include some of what christianity includes in their belief system because it is a worship of nature and of humanity. This does not make me feel like an enemy to them - unless they start mistreating me, which frequently happens, for disagreeing with them.
Please separate the person from the opinion in the future.

I wait until I meet people before I judge them. I have Christian friends and Atheist friends and I love them both. I disagree with Christians who preach hatred and I also disagree with Atheists who preach hatred. You should be open to other people and accept them for who they are and that includes Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists etc! I am Christian by the way.

Edit: I believe people should follow the way of life they have chosen based on investigation and an open-mind and no one should abuse others for what they have chosen. People will eventually choose the path that is right for them.

As an atheist, may I say that I'm relieved to see such an accommodating bunch of people on R&S today. It's a pity this doesn't happen more often.

The ex-atheist is obviously excluded from the comment above.

I am 16 and have gone to church since I was born. I don't agree with the atheists beliefs but I have nothing against hanging out with them. I don't see how they can believe in God with all the things that are out there to make them believe and even how they don't believe when all the research from evolutionists back up the Bible. How can they not believe in God but believe in some of the things they believe in. Like the big bang theory. I came up with this analogy: expecting two things to combine in outer space and everything on Earth appear, is like expecting a democrate and a republican to agree on all political issues.

yes u r right...
i think atheists are nice people... but only few. in this board i find the atheists insulting, rude and have an urge to call us believers foolish. but i cannot judge them all for what several atheists do on this board, just like it is not fair to judge a religion by few extremists (in all religions)

I used to be one, so I understand where they’re coming from. I totally understand being in a place in your life where it is easier to rely on yourself than God, I understand being in a place where it is easier to not believe, I understand having doubt because of circumstances and scientific theory…I understand all of this. However, I find many of them, especially on this site, to be rude and disrespectful. Writing questions like, “If Jesus and Muhammad were a gay couple which one would be on top and which would be on bottom?” What is that? And is it necessary? Why? I have never seen a Christian write a question as offensive as that directed towards them (if I am wrong, please correct me and send me the link to the question). I find most of the time when they answer questions that they have nothing of value to say other that “God is dead” or “God is imaginary”…if you believe that, fine, explain why if you’re going to answer. Further more why do they waste so much time talking/arguing about something that they do not believe in? You don’t believe. Fine! We get it! Stop being rude, if you don’t want to be offended by discussion about God, don’t come on a R/S forum. You can choose to be offended or not. You can choose whether you are going to read something that is going to make you angry. And before they say the door swings both ways…it’s hard to avoid reading offensive questions such as the one mentioned above when the top of the question just say Christians, what do you think about…? Then you open it and it is trash like that. I feel they have no respect…and while I have met a few Atheists in my life that we very smart, kind people…when it comes to religion they are ready to fight tooth and nail.

Edit: Also, they pounce on people who are on here with questions about God. People who are wonderful and altruistic who are actively seeking God...but have questions...they pounce on them and say things like "Why are you wasting your time?" or "God isn't real so I can't help you." If the person is asking about GOD he is clearly asking a Theist for an answer. What do Atheist's know about God? Other than that in their OPINION he doesn't exist? Or that according to their belief science has proven he doesn't exist? Fine, leave the people who are looking for God alone. Why tear them down when they're going through a season in their life when they're seeking God? To bring them down to your level? To try and push your opinions on them so they become Atheist? To me the way the Atheist do people on here who are asking about God is just as bad as the door to door evangelist who try and force their beliefs on them.
