Sometimes tattoos feel rather bruised afterwards, depending on the type of tattoo and where it's located. Certainly, the area will be sensitive for a number of days afterwards; my center-upper back work felt sore for a little over a week. I'd have to say that in all likelihood, yes, this is normal.

Chikku: Cite your sources. "A science reporter in my college library". Not even an article, and obviously not peer reviewed. *Especially* offensive is the attempt at the end to make it look like you're just expressing your opinion & "caring" for the poster. Rubbish! You try to pass off your ignorance with a BS story, "strengthen" it with an attempt to appear educated, and then hide behind "in my opinion"? If you tried that in any class I taught I'd fail you so fast your head would spin off. If you're attending a good university, you're either going to have a painful time of it or you'll be gone shortly. I've seen first year art undergraduates that can pose better arguments.

And a side note for everyone else - tattoo ink does not cause cancer. There has been a fairly large amount of looking into; see the URLs below (this is how it's done, Chikku; learn or get used to working at 7-11). There are some occasional allergies to pigments, but those are very rare.

Addendum: I found in another post from Tatt_Bratt that the dyes used in tattoos aren't the same in tattoo ink (any more?). This means you can't know ahead of time if you'll be allergic. Also, it isn't just red. Regardless, these are such trivial edge conditions that it doesn't change the veracity of my answer. I have in the meantime corrected my answer.

If it's new like you just got it, yes, this is normal...it will feel better in a few days....I was pretty bruised after I got my tattoo but it cleared in a few days. In re: to various people answering, some people will bruise and some won't. It's totally normal

different things are "normal" for different people. i have had a bruise twice after getting tattooed both in very sensitive places. it also depends on how your body reacts to trauma in general, some people bruise more easily than others. it should be fine as long as it heals like any other bruise.

mine bruised for a few days too but it should go down soon. its normal to bruise, some of us heal better than others. clean your tattoo with water and some antiseptic wipes, apply antiseptic lotion and put a bandage over it. you'll be fine soon but if its still bruised in a few days, go and see the doctor.

Well dear if it feels bruised that is probably because it is you may have got an artist that went to deep with your ink or if they went over and over it several times more than needed

Or you may just have sensitive skin

tattoo bruising is normal especially when the tattoo is on your cranium and applied with a mallot.
