I work in a home for the elderly and disabled (non-elderly). I work in the kitchen and I put paxative in all the food. All the nurses were overun and they had to call in more people because there were too many people pooping themselves later. I kinda feel bad now knowing that I took the attention of the nurses when something important could have happened. But I still think its funny. Do you think I was wrong. Not looking to be bashed. Looking for opinions. I think a firm talking to should have been in order, not a suspension without pay, following possible termination.

If I were your boss, I would have terminated you immediately when I found out. Not only could that have been dangerous, but it easily could lead to serious lawsuits. I think you got off easy.

What you did was dangerous and irresponsible. Someone could have gotten seriously sick from this (the elderly are often weaker and can't handle things like this as well as us) and this surely made them feel terrible for a couple of days and caused a lot of inconvenience for both them and the nurses. On top of that, with the nurses being busy with this they could have not noticed if something more serious happened to someone there. Had someone gotten a heart attack in their room the nurses wouldn't have noticed in time because they were busy helping the others on the toilet.

Then there's the extra cost, the extra work, the inconveniences for the nurses. All in all it was a really stupid thing to do. I would have fired you too. If someone is neither smart nor caring enough to realize that this was a bad idea then they shouldn't be working in such a place anyway.

Yeah, you were wrong....but you're also very lucky that they didn't turn you over to the police. Actually, what you did is considered a felony, and you could have been brought up on a couple of very serious charges.

It was kind of dangerous to do too. The elderly get dehydrated very quickly, and giving an elderly person laxitives when they don't need it really could have caused some problems and put them in the hospital.

Additionally, if word ever does get out of your prank, the nursing home could be sued. If that happens -- very likely, YOU WILL be brought up on some of those very serious charges, and you're going to have a heck of a time finding another job in the future after that happens.

I know you probably didn't understand how serious it was when you did that....but that's a big deal. That's why they're so upset with you.

That's NOT a prank, that's poisoning. If you are serious and really put laxatives in the food at a nursing home, you should have been arrested, not just fired! A debilitated senior who got uncontrollable diarrhea could have been made seriously ill. The nursing home could have been sued by the patients or the staff. So, if all you got was fired, count your blessings. Hope you discover some common sense before you get another job.

I think that was a horrible prank and you deserved to lose your job. These people you work for (the elderly and disabled) are dependent upon the care and services you supply and you took their trust and pretty much stomped all over it.
You are lucky that all you got was terminated. The company you work for can easily file legal charges against you.
Next time you plan on pulling a prank, I would suggest you think if the prank is going to do harm to another person's health and well-being.

Because what you did could have had possibly serious medical consequences, the company really has no choice but to suspend and most likely terminate you. Your actions opened them up to lawsuits from the tenants or there families, and the easiest way for them to defend themselves is say that, while they properly trained you, your behavior was totally caused by your own deviance/stupidity, and that therefore they shouldn't be personally held liable. If I were you I would be happy if the only thing that happened is that you got fired, and that you don't yourself get sued or criminally charged.

You caused a near calamity in nursing home, some of those old people could have died. Of course you should have been terminated; your lucky the nursing home isn't prosecuting you in court for what you did.

I think it was terrible the elderly are already more susceptible to things like bug and virus's so you come along and give them the diarrhea and could have caused some very serious problems if their are charges you could be brought up on I think you should be, you could have caused the death of someone. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!!!!!!!!!!

why the freak would you put laxative in their food?! WHY?! laxative can cause dehydration and considering you did it to an elderly person and a disabled person just makes it totally wrong. if you knew what laxative did, why would you try to harm these old people?! what did they do to you?! i have a lot more stuff to say but i can't get it out...

Is this for real? I mean, c'mon! Can't you discern the difference between cruelty and humor? Were there many cases of dehydration from the diarrhea? You find that funny, do you? Dude, you're lucky charges weren't filed against you.
