I think that you misunderstand what "dispensationalism" means. Dispensationalism views history as a series of covenants (usually seven) between God and mankind that progressively build on one another. It is a form of Biblical interpretation that assumes, among other things, that certain rules in the Bible apply to certain time periods only.

It is popular as a way of interpreting the book of Revelations (think of the "Left Behind" series of books). I have a book around here somewhere that explains the theory of dispensationalism from a theologian's of view, and when I find it, I will let you know the title and author.

Dispensationalism is distinguished by three key principles:

1 - A clear distinction between God's program for Israel and God's program for the Church.

2 - A consistent and regular use of a literal principle of interpretation

3 - The understanding of the purpose of God as His own glory rather than the salvation of mankind.

I can't find it now, but the title of the book was, of course, "Dispensationalism", and I believe that it was by Charles Ryrie. Skip the first chapter -- it is confusing unless you've been to seminary --- and start with chapter two (you won't missing anything, trust me). The rest of the book is easy to understand.

You can get it used at Amazon for about $13-$15, or you can probably find it at any local library, since Charles Ryrie should be a well known author.

As a current in Protestant Christian theology, Dispensationalism is a form of premillennialism which teaches biblical history as a number of successive economies or administrations, called dispensations, each of which emphasizes the discontinuity of the Old Testament covenants God made with His various people. However dispensationalism conceptually also exists beyond issues of just Christian doctrine. For example the Bahá'í Faith uses the general concept of dispensations as described but in the broader context of all the major religions of humanity.[1]
