bought 2 different 3.1 version hdmi cables just to make sure but it doesn't work right. i've heard that it might help if you use an earlier version of this cables. is this true? after all efforts i had to buy the component cables and it works perfectly. am i missing something? the hdmi-hdmi cable was connecting the cable box (receiver) and my tv. thanks in advance for your help

yes, i tried setting up everyhing in the tv and the cable box, too. no change whatsoever. hd channels have picture but no sound, all the other channels have sound but i only see the lower left corner of the screen magnified maybe 3 times. yes, i tried adjusting the display ratio, still nothing. as soon as i change back to the component imput everything is ok.

the cable in and out thing you are suggesting would be just a regular connection, before i had any cables that's how it was set up(hd channels don't look very good). without the hdmi of course. but if you choose the hdmi imput then the analog cable connection doesn't work. it's one or the other.

My hdmi cable's features :
"
Conforms to HDMI 1.3 specification and is compatible with all HDMI devices
Connects Apple TV or other AV components with HDMI to your receiver or HDTV
24k gold-plated connectors ensure maximum conductivity
Durable rubber overmolding protects cable and connector
Convenient 6.56 ft./2.0 m length "

my tv is a 42" Sharp Aquos lcd with 2 hdmi imputs
i have a digital receiver with hd programming from Cox; this box doesn't actually have a hdmi output, so i had to buy a dvi to hdmi adapter (and i also tried a dvi o hdmi cable just to make sure it's not the adapter)
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You might have to go to the setup menu in your TV, or cable box , or both and select the input/output connector that you are using. I have a 61" samsung and time warner cable and had to set up hdmi in both the tv and cable box.

First, There is no such a thing as a 1.3 cable. They are all the same.
Did you have video problems? (not common), Audio (very common), or DHCP (rare these days)?
a) Make sure you output from your set-top at 720p or 1080i
b) Make sure the audio is PCM not Dolby Digital

Did you connect the in-coming cable line from outside to "cable in " on the cable box, then go from cable out on cablebox to cable in on TV, then HDMI > HDMI from TV to Cablebox ? That hook up eliminated the component cables on my set up.
