What's your best story?

If you ever go through security with one of those energizer cell phone chargers they'll probably stop you--yesterday they sure stopped me. It was so funny (looking back at it), the woman at the screen was just shaking her head and giving me a dirty look. Of course, I'm muslim so that just made it more interesting...

The guy checking my purse was looking for all the compartments..I pointed to the otherside of the bag while I said ,'There's another one over there' (my hand was nowhere near the bag as I was standing a few feet away) and he said, 'M'am I'm gonna have to ask you not to touch the bag!'

To make if funnier, I am at this airport ALL THE TIME - I work in the travel industry --I know a ton of these security screeners. I also know they have to do their job, I just didn't like the drama they were giving me this time. They've checked my bag before and gave me no drama --always polite and super nice.

A couple months ago I was on a domestic flight from Boston-Washington. I was carrying a sealed package of sausage (this kind of spicy Portuguese sausage that you can buy in Massachusetts but not in DC).... anyway it was frozen, so that it would stay cold for a few hours until I got home. And I had it in its original packaging (sealed in plastic, in airtight packaging). The guy said he "may have to take it because it might be a liquid" despite the fact that it was obvious what it was. He asked the supervisor if it was allowed who told the guy he was an idiot for even questioning it and of course it was okay to bring through security. Other than that, I've never had any problems at all - I fly close to 100 times a year so I've been through airport security numerous times and never get stopped or anything.

I was at London Heathrow in the year 2000, and I was randomly selected to have my backpack searched. No big deal... except that my little sisters were into Pokemon, and I had a few boxes of Pokemon cards in my bag that I had bought for them. He examined them, and freaked when he saw the little glass counters. I guess he thought they were jewels or something. I carefully explained what they were, showed him the rule book, and he was cool with it. It is actually quite amazing how reasonable most of these guys are if you are calm and reasonable yourself. Still, I thought it was funny. Pokemon was so popular back then that I was surprised to find someone who didn't know anything about it!

Boston, US, airport, late 2001. My small backpack/rucksack was put through the scanner and they spotted something they wanted to take a closer look at. They opened up the bag, looked around, then put it back through the scanner. Looking perplexed they then emptied the contents of the bag on the table. Empty bag went through the scanner. Even more perplexed they looked through the contents on the table. Eventually one picked up my clipboard and put that through the scanner. Finally, they admitted they thought I had a knife - but it was the metal clip on the clipboard! I was amused; they weren't.

I was going through customs at the Toronto airport so I could go back home to Atlanta. I arrived at the airport 4 hours before departure and checked in. Walked the long walk to customs and waited in line. I saw a woman customs officer giving the lady in front of me a hard time and I wished I wouldnt have to see her. Low and behold, thats who I had to talk too. She sent me to another room to wait to speak to someone else. I waited with my 3 year old son for over 3 hours and watched the people come and go in that small room. Finally they talked to me. Hassled me for awhile, dumped my belongings out of my luggage to check them, then said ok your free to go. They say this 5 MINUTES before my flight was to leave. Now it normally takes 20 minutes to go from customs, through security and to the gate and I had 5 minutes. I rushed with my 3 year old son, hoping I wouldnt miss my flight. I get to my gate and see the plane ready to go. Doors closed and all. Luckly I had a compassionate flight attendant who got them to open the doors again. Those power trippin custom officers need to get a reality check and their head straightened out. They had no reason to hold me and my son. The only reason I can think of is cause we stayed away from home for a month the previous trip.
