For the most part, I think it's a personal experience that changed someone to an atheist (or a series of personal experiences). Example: They had a loved one die in a horrific accident, suffer due to a disease, or it could even be something as simple as just not ever getting proof of there being a god (a weak reason in my opinion, but I've heard it as a reason before).

Atheists don't have allegiance to any being (such as a god) so there is really no 'word' to spread by going door-to-door. I mean if you want to convert someone, you're going to need proof that it doesn't exist - at least you would for those that strongly believe in any kind of religion.

Just walking up to their door and talking to them about your own experiences and beliefs without having a reason or proof behind your stories isn't going to change their opinion or beliefs. It has to be a personal epiphany to change their belief, not just the life experiences of another person

Missionaries who go door to door to recruit members to their faith do so as an expression of religious faith. They believe that there is a spiritual benefit (generally salvation or some promise of paradise after death) to people who are members of, or who choose to join their religion. I'm not an expert in the field, but I would wager that proselytizing is a major component of most monotheistic faiths, and an annoying one at that.

Religion and god are human constructs. You can have a religion without being able to physically prove there is a god - we've been doing it since time began. Without religious followers, however, religions cease to exist. No members, no religion, no god.

Atheism isn't a belief or a religion, it is a postion one holds based on empirical fact. There is no tangible benefit to being an atheist, no club to join, no solution to sell.

Because the door to door thing is an attempt to try to sell you something, whether it be product, service, or a load of crap. With atheists, there is nothing for you to buy or buy into.

I sort of agree with Happy, but there are a lot of atheist that go to religious boards that have nothing to do with the debate with atheism and still give everyone thumbs down just for believing. There are wackos on both sides and make the rest of us look like jerks.

That's a good question; never thought of that before.
But considering the atheist;s point of view, you have to wonder what they would say?
Have faith....there is nothing there!?
Or maybe.....Would you care to listen about the beauty of nothingness for ever?
Maybe this one could be used,... We all have a destiny to die, and become none of none, truly we are a nothing of nothing for nothing!!!!
See my point? There is no validity in their beliefs!
Besides, there is no greater entity urging them on to help others understand. On the weekday evenings, and the Saturday mornings they are all preoccupied with the turning of the world to concern themselves about their own soul.

Hahaha! The minute athiests start pushing their ideals on other people, they have turned their beliefs into a religion. Those who claim to be athiests would do best by keeping there mouths shut. I never try to talk a Christian out of being a Christian. I say if you want to believe in it, that's your choice, do whatever you want. I don't want to hear about your god, so I won't tell you about how I worship myself. If you try to convert others, you are a hypocrite.

All of the atheist zealots waste their time here on the internet, so they don't have time to leave their houses. They also don't care to convert you--they'd rather call you stupid for not being part of their religion--it's more fun for them. Actually, they don't usually call you stupid--they just call themselves smart and leave religion's stupidity as implied. (Kinda like the religious folks leave atheists' immorality as implied).

It seems that whenever religion gets brought up, everyone trades in their brain but pretends that they are even deeper and better thinking than usual.

Speaking for myself only, I would make no attempt to try to convince anuone to give up his religion and join me in non-belief. I don't care how many others go to church, so long as they don't try to get me to go.
Here, on answers, I will bash those who attempt to run down those who don't believe.
If a question is asked for information, in a polite manner, I answer in a polite way.

We are not about converting people as we all have different ideas. Though none of of those ideas involve a belief in imaginary friends.
