Yes, in today's society it is always wrong.
But, if you have some concrete examples, what societies and how does the person benefit, it would be easier to know and understand your question.

Slavery was originally started as means of "Repentance and Reconciliation". Prior to the "Correctional Facilities" (Prisons) when a person transgressed against another the penalty was often a specified slavery time.
For example, a man steals livestock and the owner catches them after they've killed and consumed the livestock. To repay the rightful owner of the live stock the stealer would work for the owner. This could be for a few months to many years. They were in a "Barter economy then". The "eye- for- an - eye" came around when slavery couldn't make up the difference or when the person who did wrong refused to take up his burdon as a slave ... then he'd have his hand cut off. Imagine if Joe Naccio (QWest) had to work to pay off all his employee's and shareholders he ripped off instead of prison time!!!
Additionally, in marriage, a man would often submit to being the father of the brides slave for a set time period before the father handed his daughter over to the groom. In cases of murder (accidental like a house builder did bad job which caused building to kill those in house) ...well, banishment was the punishment.
However, the problem with this is that mankind hasn't found the "Merciful" compassion that our Lord has which then causes the slave owner to abuse his power of authority and claims against wrong doings --- which is why slavery is bad; it prophecies the proverb, "Absolute power corrupts absolutely". Further, the European's (Muslim & Christain communities) "Stole" men for slavery without crimes commited. Which I guess in ancient times would turn about the slavery where they should be slaves to the men they made slaves.

This is not an absolute moral.
Here is why and something we should do here in the country.
If a person is given a life sentence without parole or a death sentence then think we should instead make them work to repay their debt to society. Make them a slave, if they are violent criminals then they are state run slaves used to do works for the people.
If they are a non violent slave then sell them to the general public for personal or industrial use. Give them the jobs others will not take.
This will take away some of the immigration issues because we would have people who would work for the jobs most americans will not take because of pay. And it will take the burden of the criminal system off of the people, because of the now productive slaves and the relief of people in prison.

If the end does not justify the means, then no. If the purpose of slavery is for the accumulation of wealth and power, then people are using humans as means to justify their own end. That is absolutely immoral, regardless of whether a society accepts it.
I personally do not believe in moral relativism.

Depending upon your culture, slavery is acceptable. But please do not equate the malevolent slavery of the Southern States of the USA in the 1700-1800's as a good example of slavery. It was a horrible example. Indebtedness is one thing. Ownership of another human being is something quite different.
That said, slavery can be anything from indentured servanthood (in order to pay off a debt) to being an employee in a household.
Many are already slaves to their own credit card debt, with little hope of ever being freed from it.

Eleven,
In parts of Europe many years ago the slavery was for a specified time period then the slaves were free to become citizens. It was similar to servitude. Where one worked for his passage to the area. That would be a form of slavery tht should be morally alright as long as the "slave" knew exactly what the terms were and approved of them beforehand. Have a wonderful weekend.
Thanks,

Hey, listen, we say it's wrong. THere are people, liek in my crazy family, who would have been happier being forced to be productive, than to sit around with our social phobias and be depressed everyday of our lives.
But the notion that ANYONE has the right for any reason, to subjugate someone else, is wrong enough that we feel comfortable leaving the screwballs who would benefit all to themselves.
