My doc ordered a 24 hr urine collection for me. While collecting urine for the test I noticed that there were a lot of sediments in it. What could they be? It kinda looked like little sand particles in the bottom of the sterile collection container. Should I be worried or is this normal?

sediment is normal--if your urine is alkaline its a phosphate sediment; if acidic its a uric acid sediment. You are probably keeping that 24 hours urine in the fridge...which precipitates these sediments out due to cooling.

Hi,
Dont be worried as there are a few causes to this, as suggested in a previous answer if you are storing the urine for 24 hours it is possible to see "sediments". There is also a possibility of kidney stones, why did the doctor ask for the 24 hour sample in the first place, if you are experiencing pain when urinating then consult your doctor again and make them aware of this. Otherwise and more than likely it is nothing serious or that cant be treated fairly easily.

as an addendum to diane a's answer, when the urine is tested, the specimen is centrifuged and the supernatant (the portion of the urine at the top where the sediment has been removed) will actually be tested. therefore, it will not interfere with your test.

I artwork in an Emergency Room and considered some situations the place the presence of sperm in a sufferers urine led us to record CPS or APS comments. once you recieve a specimen into the lab, you get no scientific history with it. in the situations I even have considered, the sufferers have been the two mentally incapacitated. Therefor, no longer determining directly to have intercourse. in my opinion, this result ought to continually be pronounced. it quite is as much as the wellness care provider to confirm what's appropriate and what isn't. despite if it quite is beside the point, that's going to likely be handed over by technique of the wellness care provider. from time to time, i comprehend, it has given a voice to those who weren't waiting to communicate for and take care of themselves. i comprehend it quite is a rarity......yet it happens.

Don't worry about it. Your doctor will tell you the results of the testing.
