It has nothing to do with the 8 vials they took from you. Your body would normally regenerate that amount of blood in a short amount of time. Your reaction was probably anxiety. It helps if the phlebotomist uses a calm soothing voice and gentle approach. It also helps if they let the alcohol dry completely before putting the needle in: this will minimize the stinging sensation. And I always use butterfly needles on my patients because it is a smaller, finer needle and this is not as scary as traditional straight needle with fatter gauges. Next time, try asking the technician if they would use a butterfly. I'm thinking that it might minimize your stress next time.
Not a stupid question! I've drawn a million tubes of blood and I still get nervous when it's my turn. It's only human.

I just wanted to add that yes, 3-4 vials is a normal amount, and that equals to roughly 2-3 tablespoons by volume. The only reason they would draw 8 vials is if they're looking for very specific antibodies, such as a Lupus Panel, for which 9-10 different tubes might be needed.

It sounds like it was more the blood loss. Your symptoms sound like what people describe when people donate blood. They actually MAKE you drink juice and eat a snack. Eight vials is a lot of blood (most test take 3 or 4 at the most)

It sounds like she took enough out of you to give an extra quart to the Red Cross! You can get very shaky from loss of blood, and your blood sugar can go too low. That's why she gave you the orange juice. Whenever I donate blood, they make me sit for about 15 minutes, drink orange juice, and have a cookie to get me back on track (that's the normal procedure, since you do get weak, and they don't want you to pass out).

I get like that when i have a few tubes of blood taken... its better to have a plan to eat right afterwords so that you can feel better.. its not anything strange its just your body saying that it has lost something it runs off of.. it should pass within a hour of eating if the feeling doesn't then you should call your doctor and tell him/her what you are feeling

You lost quite a bit of blood,I'd say that was the reason.
