I had my gallbladder removed about 6 months ago. Depends on how it was removed...open surgery can cause pain for about 6 weeks...but most is by Laparoscopic..which is what I had...I had pain for about a week to 10 days. Most of the pain is from the gas they put in the abdomen....Severe pain can be a sign of infection...

Be sure to call your doctor if any of the following symptoms appear:
• Fever
• Worsening pain
• Redness or swelling around the incision
• The incision is warm to the touch
• Drainage from the incision

Hubby had an accutely inflamed infected gallbladder removed through keyhole surgery.
He went in as an emergency patient and was operated at 11 pm. When I took him in he was in pain and was white to greenish in the face.

Next morning he sat in bed grinning, having the most monumental cooked breakfast!

He wasn't even in hospital for 24 hours.

He did not have pain at all after that, just a slight discomfort for a week or so.
