Ok, here's the deal. I'm trying very hard to lose weight and get into shape, but I keep getting blisters on the same place on my right foot. I even bought new shoes to help cure this problem, or so I thought! I didn't buy cheap shoes. I went to a shoe store recommended by a coworker. They looked at my feet, the way I stand and they way I walk. But these new shoes are giving me blisters on the right edge of my right foot, the outside part of my big toes, and my left heel. Is there anything that I can use to prevent them? I know that runners put on some kind of lotion or something before they run a 5K or a marathon. Also, what's the best way to care for them and get rid of them fast? Thanks in advance for all your answers!

Getting properly fitting footwear is only part of the process to prevent blisters. You need to get socks that keep your feet as dry as possible. Sweaty feet will almost always equal blisters because moisture breaks down the skin, making it softer and much more susceptible to friction caused blisters. Invest in good socks that wick away moisture from your feet and shoes that allow moisture to escape.

Unless infection occurs, blisters usually heal quickly without much additional treatment. It is best to drain the fluid and apply antibiotic ointment or an antiseptic to clean out any bacteria that has or may begin to form. If a blister is punctured, it forms an open wound so it is a good idea to bandage it when one is working around unsanitary conditions. If the blister has 'popped,' the excess skin should not be removed, unless it is dirty or torn. Removing the excess skin often makes the wound more prone to further infection. As with all wounds, it is a good idea to keep blisters clean. If you get a blister, the goal is to keep the blister from getting bigger and avoiding infection. (Signs of infection include pus draining from the blister, very red or warm skin around the blister, and red streaks leading away from the blister). Small unbroken blisters that don't cause discomfort can be left alone to heal, because the best protection against infection is a blister's own skin.

To prevent them buy shoes that are one size bigger for exercising. Don't ever pop the blisters that could cause infection. They will go away naturally. You can buy mole skin to put on the areas that have the blisters, this will protect them from further damage. You may need to see a podiatrist about your right foot it could be that you need orthotics.

Blisters are caused by friction. My guess is that the shoes do not fit correctly. Maybe try wearing a thicker pair of socks. Pay attention when you walk ot run is your foot slidding at all. Then your shoes are not right.
