I was just curious as to how many people out there were helped my anti-depression medication. It personally changed my life for the better and I think people should be more open minded about prescription medication.

Those of you that disagree with me... I didnt say that medication helped everyone!! I understand that some suffer bad side effects from being allergic or whatever.

Also, some people cant resovle their problems without medication (Mike J). Thats like telling someone with cancer that its their fault because they couldn't help themselves!!

There are too many people who come to this section and say they have a problem, often a serious problem, but they don't want to take meds, they want a natural answer. One guy said he was going to use just green tea.

Meds saved my life - absolutely. I was on my way to death. Meds worked for my friend - he was on the road to a total inability to live a productive life.

Some refer to getting God's help as a reason not to take meds. They should ask themselves the question why would God have allowed these wonderful meds to be created if He didn't want them to be used.

I have been off and on Prozac for about 10 years. When it worked, it was awesome but the last time I was on it my Anorexia was in full swing and well the mix of prozac and not eating put my in the hospital with a mild heart attack. Since then, I havent taken anything...mostly cuz of fear.
I do agree with the meds. They werent invented to cure depression by any means. The were invented to give someone who is only hanging on by a fingernail a boost to start getting things back on track.
I am glad to hear that they have worked for you. It takes a very long time to find the ones that really do work for ya. I am glad that you found yours.

Yes, I too was helped with anti-depression medication.

But the opposite is true for my husband. The doctor put him on too much medication and it made him worse. It wasn't until we discharged him from the Mental Hospital against doctors orders and with the help of friends in the medical field took him off all but one medication, did he get back to normal.

My medication helps me immensely. I start noticing a difference in my disposition if I miss even three days. Without them I become very impulsive and agitated and depressed. I'm on three daily meds and an anti-anxiety med as needed for my bipolar.

well, i started on prozac, which made me not be able to sleep and gave me a buzzing in my ears i could actually feel and it would wake me up if i DID fall asleep. so then they gave me amytriptiline as well (totally spelled that wrong) to help me sleep, but then i got even MORE depressed and actually started thinking about suicide. so i stopped taking them. about 2 years later they put me on welbutrin (2 weeks before my 21st birthday) and told me if i drank while on it, i WOULD have a seizure, and if i took them less than 12 hours apart, i WOULD have a seizure. i took that for about a week, then decided that the cons were too much for me, so i stopped taking it. i havent been on anything since, and am now 25.

No freakin way!!! I think people need to do more soul searching before they take a medication. I was on paxil for a year. It messed me up so bad. If i missed a dose i couldn't even get off the couch. It was insane. So i weaned myself off. I feel so much better. I fought being put on medication for awhile. I finally gave in and i regret the day i did. It's a cop out. Unless you need to be institutionalized, you don't need meds. Just deal with it. Stop watching the news and go camping. Then IMPEACH BUSH!

Not necessarily. It only appreased me from taking the necessary steps to improve my life. Until I found the real source of the problem, seizures, antidepressants messed with my brain and made me psychotic, inspiring me to make poor choices.

Prozac is the best invention since sliced bread. Thanks for asking this question!

Edit: Looks like someone who doesn't believe in anti-depressants appeared and gave us all a thumbs down.
