The only criteria you need to fufil to becom a member of NA is the desire to stop using.
If you wish to stop smoking Marijauna and wish to join NA, then you are more than welcome to.
There is no such thing as a 'serious drug addiction' - if your drug use is a problem for you, then it is serious and you are welcome to join NA to overcome your addiction.
Also, you do not need to be religious to follow the 12 steps that NA use. The 12 steps refer to a 'higher power' but this is different things for different people. You do not need to believe in a Christian God or a Muslim God.
Hope you decide to give NA a go. Welcome to the family.
(I'd recommend visiting NA as opposed to AA, as AA is specifically for alcoholics. You are more likely to meet people who understand at NA)
Also - there is MA (Marijuana Anonymous). They have meetings across America, perhaps you'd feel more comfortable being with other Marijuana addicts?

It seems to me That a Drug is a drug is a drug, all the bs and cutting the corners to get the answer you want to justify whatever it is Bottom line its a drug, and so is alcohol, if you are dropping pills or smoking you are NOT clean n sober, You are either clean or NOT, also NA does have a religious twist to it using the word GOD, to each their own BUT do NOT put down people who are NOT religious because they will say if you don't believe in god then your NOT doing the steps.
NA,AA is a great stepping stone to get clean BUT enough of the brainwashing like their the ONLY way, thats BS, their are many in the world that didn't like their lifes and changed it and who remain clean and sober so who is NA or AA to say their any better then them.
I got clean their and it helped me BIG time showing me another way BUT because i don't do god their were ones who would walk out when i spoke and others who would say i agree, right one. Also I do NOT like that anyone can join if you have drug or alcohol problem, their are some that should be told go somewhere else, aka: Child Molesters they do not well, and are lurking in the rooms while others are trying to get clean, i know and have ran them out ;-) then when put down for character assassination not that i cared, then a few months later the guy molested a couple of children in the program, Then it was like O i remember when you spoke about it....
Today my Life is a good life and i have 22 3/4 yeas clean and sober , So just beware...and remember everything is just and opinion.
If u have a drug problem and want to change NA/AA is a great place to start....Good Luck 2All

Narcotics Anonymous would be perfect. Although marijuana is not physically addictive there are tons of people that have a psychological addiction to it.
In Narcotics Anonymous you don't actually say what it is that you were addicted to, you just say that you are a recovering addict. It would be perfect for a marijuana addiction.

Go for Narcotics Anonymous.
"NA's earliest self-titled pamphlet, known among members as "the White Booklet," describes Narcotics Anonymous this way:
"NA is a nonprofit fellowship or society of men and women for whom drugs had become a major problem. We … meet regularly to help each other stay clean. ... We are not interested in what or how much you used ... but only in what you want to do about your problem and how we can help."
Membership is open to all drug addicts, regardless of the particular drug or combination of drugs used. When adapting AA’s First Step, the word “addiction” was substituted for “alcohol,” thus removing drug-specific language and reflecting the “disease concept” of addiction."

painpills are 100 times worse than pot, had to say that straight off, they'll teach you what drugs are safe and not, it starts off like a class, but then they try to find the mental reasons of why you started getting high to the point of addiction because nine tenths of an addiction is mental, theyre usually group meetings because they want you to see that you arent alone in the world that others are just like you, and btw a lot of ppl are for for pain pills more than any other drug. pain pills are at the moment the number one thing ppl are hooked on, and you wont see many if any ppl there for marijuana, it isnt considered addictive enough. its one of the three safe drugs(weed, acid and shrooms), And if you didnt know, pill addicts, if youre taking opiate pills(vicodin, oxycotin, hydrocodone, oxycodone, or morphene) are treated the same in detox as heroin addicts cause believe it or not theyre the same drug, they all come from the poppy plant, in a piss test they all show up the same, opiates. i personally have never been to rehab or aa or na, but i am a medical taxi driver from rochester ny area and i take ppl to rehab on a daily basis for years, and have heard enough of this stuff to teach a class, plus one of my friends is currently in rehab, dont fear going, it will help, addiction is a scary thing and i've been helping a couple ppl through theirs, you'll be happy you went when its all said and done, many ppl out there want you to get better and will be more than willing to help, even complete strangers at these things would give you the shirt off their back if it helps you, theyre in the same boat and want to to get better too

NA and AA are for anyone who likes to get intoxicated on occasion, but would rather replace it with a cult or was court ordered to. In NA some people are claiming to be marijuana addicts. You're not supposed to talk about your drug of choice specifically, but everyone will during smoke breaks.
A lot of people at those meetings never were really addicts, but felt the need to quit engaging in such behaviours and join the cult.

Pot is the easy drug to get off of. I smoked at least five joints or bowls a day for three years. One day i got sick of having no goals. So i stopped, cold turkey. You may get headaches but you don't go through withdrawals like other drugs. You may feel yourself getting a little angry, but ignore it. In a few days you will be right as rain. Though i know of many people that function perfectly on pot. Made it through school with high grades. I was not one of them. I don't see how they did it. It affects people in different ways. I was a low function person on pot. Now i feel better. I'm not saying i don't partake when it is offered to me, but that is not very often, and i find myself only being able to take one or two hits before i am completely stoned. I got paranoid on pot too. Just stop smoking it. I maybe smoke it twice a year if that.

Side effects of quitting marijauna and similar weeds are terrible. I was an marijauna addict. I started coughing up stuff from my lungs. It wasn't very nice, but the docter told me it was normal. My lungs were getting rid of the crap from the nicotine!
To close down the side effects and for a proper guidance, I followed these guys at http://QuitMarijauna.DrHealthExpert.com and WOW, the entire process went super smoothly and finally I have got rid of this addiction of mine.
I am super happy now. You too can follow the same path my mate.. Best Luck

Marijuana can enhance life, and ruin it if abused. You got used to relying on marijuana for some things that should be done without it. Just lower the dose. "Drug addict" is a very strong term. Look at Rastafarians, they smoke so much, but because they have a different mind set you can barely put any of them into this category. best.
