i guess breaking up is never really a nice experience, except if it is a mutual decision...but i guess there is no better way to break up but to simply tell the entire truth (dont bother making up stories and cliche reasons and excuses) just tell the truth...how you REALL feel because anything less than the truth will mean being really unfair. if the person really loved you too, then s/he should understand ;)

Depending on the situation, whether you guys are on good term or not, etc...
It's never easy to break up especially if the other person isn't expecting it.
the one thing you shouldn't do once you get to the point of breaking up is send mixed feelings. Mixed feelings usually mean that you yourself aren't sure of what you want. If you are ready to break up, then there shouldn't be a doubt in your mind about it. If there is even the tiniest doubt, then think again because you don't wanna do something you will later regret.
Don't use the "I need a break right now" thing because that usually means there is a chance of you getting back together. Say what you mean and mean what you say. If you can't, then that means there's more to the relationship that you need to look into.
Don't want this to be a lecture but, basically be straight forward without being too harsh. If you feel bad and want to break up with the person nicely, that should be good enough to help you find a way of telling the other person.
Good luck with everything.

PS- After you have done what you needed to be done, do not back out of it or he/she will just think you don't know what you want. And depending on the type of person you are dealing with, don't take no for an answer. It's your choice. Even if they beg you to give it another try.

There is no nice way of breaking up coz its someones feelings you are talking about. Just be your self and tell her face to face and ask her if you can still be friends and you didn't mean to hurt her but you have to end the love affair. Good luck.

tell the person that you need to be on your own,m completely out of a romantic relationship for several months because of family and personal reasons, and that they are free to go out with someone else. refuse to discuss the matter further and wish them happiness.

One way would be to tell the person is,"I am sorry, this is not working out for me and you, and I think that we should see other people."

I'm sorry I don't want to break your heart, but I just don't feel about you now, as I did. I'm sorry. Yep works all the time for me.
