Looking at some of the pictures. Its hard to deny that it at least does look a little "New Age".

Pio didn't have a lot of time for Rome.

By all accounts he was direct, and eyes that looked into your soul.

When he was alive, the churches official position on the saint was "no position".

So I am sure he enjoys any kind of controversy surrounding any massive new church...

St. Padre Pio had the stigmata for 50 years and was in San Giovanni Rotunda in Petrecina Italy where he lived most if his adult life until he died. He not only had the five wounds of the hands feet and crown of thorns but he also suffered and bled the scourging wounds of the body. He could Bi-locate and he had the scent of odor, which was the beautiful smell of flowers. He could also read your soul and when you went to confession to him and you were not contrite for you sins he would say basta, "stop" and would tell you to leave and come back when you were truly sorry for you sins. Plus if you left something out he would remind you of the sin and where and when it happened. through his life he had locutions and visions of Jesus and Mary. He also told Cardinal Watiwah ( spelled wrong sorry) that one day he would be pope. this cardinal was none other that Pope John Paul II. Many years before he actually became pope. His mass would last 3 to 5 hours because he would go into Ecstasy during the mass. Today he lies in state incorrupt becasue they opened his coffin on his anniversary of his death. Many many pilgrams have viewed him to now. If you want any more info on him do not hesitate to email me. God bless you. Edit: Pope John Paul II cannonized him about 2 yrs before he died. There are at least 7 books that I know of on St. Padre Pio, and you can get them from Tan book company. Great reading and very spiritual. I've read them all. Edit: Sorry one more thing with all the pain he suffered and he did suffer daily, The devil would attack him physically and the other Padre's would hear the noise and the next day Padre Pio would have bruises all over him.

So long as there is an equilateral cross encircled by the great nothingness some where no evil can destroy that which God has inspired. Would not mind a link to padre pio though, the Kiwanis might want to use the multipurpose room of that facility for a banquet they are planning for a Knight of Columbus. Look for the rock in your eye and leave the dust of the stone cutters art in their own care.

I live in Italy. The Shrine is one of Italy's largest tourist attractions.
Fifty new hotels have been built in the immediate area of the Shrine.

It's like a Disneyland, really. God only knows what worshippers see at the Shrine.

Padre Pio's most famous spiritual gift is the stigmata, which he received in 1918 while praying before a crucifix. He is said to have bled from the five wounds of Christ for the rest of his life, which caused him great suffering and embarrassment.

The priest died on September 23, 1968, clutching his rosary and uttering the words, "Jesus, Mary." In death, his feet and hands showed no signs of the wounds of the stigmata: some saw this as evidence of fraud; others held it to be another miracle.

I remember seeing a picture of it in a magazine. Not very beautiful or uplifting for the soul.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if masons somehow had a hand in it. They have infiltrated high positions in the Church for hundreds of years now. They influenced the New Mass which was created in the 1960's.

I would think that most of the "traditionalist Catholics" do not even know the place exists.
