That depends on the situation and setting.

For instance to you since I don't really know you I'd just tell you my name.

Last week I was talking to a congregation who our congregation will be merging with and their pastor and I will be sharing the responsibilities. When they asked me who I was what they were asking is what are your qualifications. Then I must go into my history.

I guess it depends on how close I will be getting to the person I meet. As pastor I'll be pretty close to these people. If I'm chatting with a coworker or someone here in answers then you don't really need to know who I am.

Who am I? I am a child of God. I am a daughter to my parents, I am a wife to my husband and a mother to my children. I am a friend to my friends and considered an enemy by people that do not like me. I am a neighbor to my neighbors and an acquaintance to my acquaintances. I am a client or customer to the places that I patronage. But, above all I am a child of God. I do not need to recite my long, sordid history, the blood of Jesus wiped that clean, I am a new creation.

Talking about who you are is really talking about the nature of self. Thoughts and feelings are fromed from interaction with the environment through the 10 senses. Hence all knowledge that you have learnt is not part of your self, but simply a record of your interaction with your environment.
The soul, and its nature is a metaphysical question.

No... my history is my history. If they ask specifics about it, then i may share. I tell them my name. If they ask my thoughts on something... i share. If they want to know how i feel... i share. If they don't ask, they don't want to hear, and it would be a waist of breathe.

I normally do reveal the contents of my mind....

And it's usually followed by comments like "Oh man....another right-wing, radical fundie..."

Which is fine by me......praise God

I am pretty open and straight forward. I think if you see yourself as "just a name" then that is who you are. But if you see yourself as more, it becomes obvious by your life and you really don't have to explain.

My initial answer is 'no one'.

I am not the contents of my mind: thoughts, feelings, etc...neither are you.
