Anyone else noticing the most outlandish claims on behalf of "christianity" never come with references to the Bible?

Is it too much to expect those who answer questions about "christianity" to actually have read their bibles enough to be able to support every single answer with an appropriate reference to chapter and verse so the rest of us can confirm or refute the claim?

I'm not asking for quotes, just the name of the book, chapter and verse for every answer a "christian" provides about what they believe.

Request that in your question, and we will be glad to give it to you. But the majority of people on this site ask that you NOT give them that information, and will report you if you do.

So we usually try to respect what the person asking the question wants. So if you want chapter and verse, please state that in your questions. Will be happy to do.

I have studied the Bible, and could find something to support whatever I wanted to, I suppose. But I do not feel compelled to beat anyone over the head with my beliefs, am aware of contradictions in the Bible, and have many questions of my own.

And a big thumbs up to the lady who suggested that this is a no-win situation---some folks want a Bible reference, (tho they probably never check it) and some resent any reference to the Bible---why are they in the R&S section? Why?

If I provide a chapter and verse for every answer I give, will you look it up?

I think that's a really good challenge. It's true, a lot of Christians don't know their Bibles inside and out. But as for me, I believe that I should always be prepared to give an answer for the hope that I have. I Peter 3:15.

Okay, I understand your concern. But who are you referring to? What claims are you referring to? You are making some accusations here, but not providing enough info for us to give a response.
I do think that people should be able to back up religious claims with scriptural references. So, maybe if you ask a specific question, we can give an answer, making sure to include references.

Orion, yes I am going to just talk to you like anybody else, although I am a Born again Christian.

I have not a lot of money, but the Lord says "the just shall live by faith"
I don't have allot of clothing, but the Lord says "look at the bird and flowers, they don't work but never-the-less I look after them, how much willl I not look (clothe) after you, men of little faith"
I am not very strong, but the Lord says "he that live inside of you, are stronger than he (Satan) that lives outside"
I can go on and on, but you know the best way of being a true Christian is not necessary what you say, but what you do and how you act.

A peach tree does not have to say "I am a peach tree, just bear peaches. I quote the Word of God for what is inside, will come out. Garbage in Garbage out the opposite is also true.

You guys are going to have to make up your minds. First, you don't want christians making claims and backing it up with the bible because the bible's not an authoritative source. Now you want them to back up what they say with book, chapter, and verse. Can't have it both ways.

Make up your mind(s).

Now, now, you know there is a whacked-out verse for nearly every position you wish to take. Because the bible is such a collection of documents stitched together and edited over time I'm sure that I could find a verse for any idiot position I wish to take. Except that I don't believe in Christian or other God(s).

And how about you. are you a religiouys person or not? You evidently want to make a point about something but are un willing to state it.

All of make claims to this and that and seldom actually know what we are talking about. That holds true for what you typed for this question.

Your claim is just as invalid as any.

Well, as Christian most of my views come from common sense, no book is needed. Do you need a book for you to know right from wrong? Pretty lame if you do.

I can back up everything I say in the bible but... I'd have to explain to you how I came to see that from what you read.
Because sometimes it isn't as simple as just reading it.... sometimes we must have it taught to us... which is why there are preachers/pastors etc.... out there to do so for us.
