I see nothing about "chase" in the index to "NEC 2005 Handbook", but your local inspector might call it a "raceway" or "wireway". He may also be concerned with how close the power is to the wall (needs to be at least 1.25 inches from wall per 300.4(A)(1), and want waterproof insulation on the cable. Do not tie the cable to the outside of a metal pipe.

You may be able to do it by putting the electric in non-metallic conduit (or a similar raceway) inside the chase.
