Isn't it still battery or abuse? If a bully hits kids in school, why not go to the police if the school won't do anything to end the abuse?

If an adult hits another adult, or a kid, they get arrested. While a child won't be arrested, their parents should be held responsible shouldn't they?

If the school would not do anything I would first go talk to the parents. Maybe they are truly not aware of their child's behavior.

If that didn't work, yes, I would go to the police.

Remember to document and take photos if there are any bruises.

Last year we had an older boy threaten our first grader (to step on her head going down the stairs- to be exact among other things). We talked to the afterschool director (this is where it was happening) my husband and I were furious at what this much bigger boy was threatening to do to our little girl and another one of her friends and we took action. So did the director, thank goodness, they told us that they were happy that we did- this isn't the 1st time a younger one was bullied by the boy. They had a talk to the boys parents, who, surprise, surprise, didn't try to stop the behavior. The warning was that if this continued, he wasn't welcomed back.
It happened again, and he was gone. No retaliation either, no names were mentioned.

I think it helped teach my daughter that she can come to us if she is worried about someone trying to hurt her, and we will take her seriously.

If the director did not help, I think the next step would be to remove her from this program.

It's not that simple. I know, because I was bullied in school. Whenever you report someone for harassment or bullying, it's always your word against theirs. Also, bullying takes many different forms, and not all of them are physical. For example, relational bullies often resort to name-calling and slander, and unfortunately, you can't get the cops to arrest people for those offenses.

Why not learn to defend yourself. The world is an unkind place and you cant go crying to the cops for kids doing what kids do. I remember getting bullied in Jr. High. My dad told me to fight back. The next time it happened was the last time. Important lesson there.

most schools handle the situation if it is something that occurs at school. other than that contact the local police department. law is alot different when it comes to juveniles.
