1) Jesus didn't walk "thousands" of miles. If one is to believe the Christian scriptures, he never got much further than a hundred miles or so from his home. 2) Most peoples in the middle east wear sandals; they're practical footwear, and have been for generations. I don't know where you get your sandals, but I could wear mine all the time if it were warm enough - and in the middle east, "warm" is the way things are!
