Sorry to hear about you pet. You will be amazed how well little kids take the death of a pet, sometimes much better than adults.
Go to this link maybe it will help explain what has happened and where he has gone.

I can understand your predicament. Your very young brother will certainly understand, if properly explained. But the loss of the pet is indeed a tragedy for those who lived with it so far.
Please tell the child every thing frankly, so he will appreciate your concern too.
A few decades ago, i too had a similar plaight, when i had to tell my 6year old nephew that his father had passed away that evening. It was a very dreadful moment in my life. As there was no other alternative i could find, i told the child the truth. Yes he could understand what death means. It is painful i agree, but believe me children are intelegent enough to grasp the simple facts of life, if revealed properly. Today my nephew is a brilliant doctor and is very close to me.

i understand u'r emotions dude .... offcourse its difficult 2 break open the news 2 a small kid coz they're always more attached than any one else .....but why not try buying him the same breed ,but say may be a pair of its kind & hand over it 2 him.... then offcourse he'll question about the old pet...at that time u try changing the topic [dont reveal the fact at that time about the death of the old one or else, he wont show any interest in his new pets.tell himm thz goin' 2 b his new pet ...etc...] .... make him 2 get attached atleast a bit 2 the new ones..... & once u'r sure he's attached 2 it .... u cud slowly try convincing him may be........ waat? .... do u hav a kinda' hope that this idea would work?... offcourse he wud b hurt ... but not that much really...
cheer up dude.... convey my regards 2 u'r little bro 2 ....

I would be totally honest with him.
He will find out at some point and will be hurt that you didn't feel that he could deal with it.
When our family pets die, I have my children write little poems to the pet, and we take them outside, and burn them so that the 'smoke takes the poems to the pets', it's just something I use to help them feel connected still. We have little memorials, and we put flowers on them. It helps a great deal, because they feel that you aren't just consigning their loved one to a rubbish heap, and instead are celebrating the time we had together.
How you explain death depends on your belief system, whether you feel it's okay to tell them they have gone to an afterlife. We choose to tell them that 'fluffy' is now a star, we pick a star and they can check they are still there.
I don't tell them they went to 'sleep' or you can start a little worry in your child's mind that sleeping = death.!
You don't have to go that far....it's just what we do.
good luck.

Just tell your little brother that your pet named ------ had his time to go and that its ok. That your pet is in a better place now. If he doesn't understand know he will when he gets older. Its very normal for children that age to get a little emotional. Good luck.

It isn't good to lie to kids even if you think it will spare them pain.
Talk with your minister about what to say to children when a beloved pet or other loved one dies. Some faiths don't believe animals have souls - so you may have to be persistent and ask several ministers.
Mr. Rogers wrote a book about death and what it is and what it means to us (U.S.). It was written for children and I urge you to check it out of the library for a good explanation as to what happened to Pet.
But don't lie. That's kind of cowardly and eventually the child will find out you lied to her - which leads to even bigger problems. So, don't lie.

i'm so sorry for the shortcoming of your canine, yet you're making this more beneficial sturdy than that's. the subsequent time they arrive over, basically tell them the actuality -- the canine were given ill and died, and also you're very unhappy. i do not imagine you ought to pass into the poisoning element of it -- this can be somewhat a lot for the 6 year previous, and it would not look that it become planned, become it? in the adventure that they ask WHY the canine died, then you would clarify that the vet thinks that it become "something they ate", yet that you purely do not recognize -- regrettably, animals do not stay as long as people, and it truly is basically between the unhappy issues about possessing canine -- they don't stay with us always. it would help in case you acquire a replica of the e book "canine Heaven", by utilising Cynthia Rylant -- a captivating e book for little ones (and adults!) about how stunning canine heaven is ("at the same time as canine pass to heaven, they don't choose wings, because God knows that canine like operating astounding.") If conceivable, if you're questioning about getting yet another canine, it may well be nice to comprise them on the holiday to obtain the canine.

Tell him now. The sooner the better. It is better that you tell him that your pet is not coming back now explain to him that it is the law of life. I have dealt with a situation exactly like yours earlier. So trust me on this.
