Why do Christians support this idea? How about supplying condoms and birth control to teenagers who want it? Abstinence education is a great idea, but horny teenagers aren't listening. Wouldn't the responsible way to stop Std and abortions be to give them other options in case plan A fails?

Unfortunately, because some Christians FEAR sex. The programs that actually work in regards to preventing pregnancy are the ones that show how to prevent getting pregnant even if you do have sex, and statistics have shown that this is the reason for the decrease in the number of abortions. These people want the world to work in the way that they think that it should, and not in the way that it actually does - its called "wishful thinking" and does NOT work.

Why???

Simply because it's a principle in their religion.

The horny kids could always choose to have a plan B (if they're smart), Christian or not. Your suggestion would be great for avoiding the "pitfalls" with devastating effects (STDs, abortion, emotional strain, etc.) though. Which makes me come to the conclusion that this abstinence idea was born out to promote a change in thinking and attitude about irresponsible sex and all of all the "baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad" things that's been oh so common through out the years from the mother to the father to the daughter and the son who make new kids and suffer the same old diseases.

Sex Outside of Marriage IS wrong. Why not teach them that instead and there would hardly be no STD's. Great Morals and Values are something that should be taught from the Home in the first place IF one has the right parents who truly Love and Care for their children. The BEST Example comes from the Parents, and if the Parents are not Moral and have no Discipline for them self, the child will NOT Either. A child will inmate what they see from their Parents. Bad Parent EQUALS Bad Child.

im christian and i actually support birthcontrol..i mean like the pill and condoms..NOT abortion. thats not birthcontrol. birth control is to PREVENT pregnancy...not have sex...then say whoops! time to have an abortion lalala!
i have enough common sense to know that a baby is not made by sperm alone..or egg alone..you need both.
so if ppl wish to have sex that is fine. but if they do not wish to have children then i see no actual problem with using protection.

oh and by the way..im abstinent...so for those who say it is impossible...its not..it is very possible.

1Thess 4:3-8
"It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God; and that in this matter no one should wrong his brother or take advantage of him. The Lord will punish men for all such sins, as we have already told you and warned you. For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit."

Heb 13:4 "Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral"

Col 3:5 "Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry."

Apparently they didn't get the memo, that this concept is not effective (link to report below).

And also, they haven't heard about the Netherlands - the country with the lowest teen pregnancy rate, where they take contraception and sex education seriously.

Not all Christians support it. It's a product of the radical religious right - and does not represent main stream Christianity. Definitely, giving a person a selection of options is intelligent and prudent.

No answer but you do have it exactly right....why preach something that when natural nature takes over, abstinence is impossible...the humorous side is there are scientists who believe the body has more than one brain and I certainly know where my second brain is and when it takes control I am off.
