It shows that they are absolutely convinced that they are right and that you aren't, which shows the "wisdom" of debating with people like them. Not all Christians are like this - just the arrogant ones that think they know God's mind better than you simply because they are Christians, which is ridiculous. These Christians should stop telling God what to do - its probably VERY unwise.

I'm a Christian....I most certainly have never said anything like that to anyone.....and I don't know of any Christians who talk like that either.
There isn't any reason to feel sorry for someone who disagrees with your faith.....its just a different point of view. I think that if we were all meant to be the same, we would have been created like that. But the very fact that people are soooo different, whether physically, emotionally or mentally, tells me that the Creator intended for difference to exist because progress arises out of difference.
If everybody thought the same, I guess we'd still be stuck thinking the earth was flat & the centre of the universe, or for that matter, even further back in time.
But thanks for this question....I didn't know about this mindset. I'll pray that these people understand the true meaning of their faith......which is all about love, not pity.
Peace!

Try to look at it this way: Let's say that you and I were going swimming in the local pool. I get there early just as terrorists are leaving. They had drained the pool and filled it with acid.
Now, the pool still looks like a refreshing swim as the liquid glistens in the sun.
So, you show up and I warn you: Do not swim in the pool as it is filled with acid.
You look at the pool and you can tell that it is clean clear water.
We debate for a bit and you dismiss me as a kook.
I scream, beg, plead, etc for you not to jump into the pool....
How much would you want to be warned to keep out of the pool? If I were to casually mention it and you jumped in (assuming you didn't die), wouldn't you jump all over me for not being emphatic?
Get the picture? You may not agree with the techniques of Christians. You may not agree with the message.
But Christians are motivated by one of two things (there could be more) 1. love = telling you about an escape 2. fear = not wanting you to suffer the eternal fate for rejecting Jesus

Some people are too religious and take it to the extreme. I don't see why they have to "feel sorry for you". If one does not believe in what you or they believe in, then let them believe what they want, right? NO ONE knows where you're gonna go once you're gone. Don't let anyone tell you that they know where you go once you pass away. That's total bull. No one can prove such thing.

I know why! As a born again Bible believing Christian we listen to what the word of God says. When you get people who try and find contradictions and try and make up a god to suit themselves, we real Christians know it is wrong under Gods conviction. In the Bible Jesus talks alot about hell and when we say that we feel sorry for someone it is because we know they are sinning and not saved and this makes us "feel sorry for them" because we do not want anyone to go to hell. No, we are not a bunch of sorry @sses, but the ones who will end up in hell due to ignorance will be. We are only telling what the Bible says, not something we just made up.

I feel sorry for people like Jill who professes to be a good christian, yet speaks so horribly about anyone with a different faith ....do people like this really believe their delusions????
Do they really think that they will not have to account for their behaviour...she lies when she said she only preaches to those who ask...because we get it even when we don't want it!!
Sheesh!
She is so fond of telling people they are going to hell!!
Must be the way she rationalises to herself ((shrugs))
Any way ...yes it does annoy me!

As a non-christian I could never understand that. I agree that not all uses that, but many of those who create the impression that they believe thay are far superior for having their beliefs.
At least their feelings of goodwill will create positive karma for themselves.

It's called condescension; assuming an air of superiority and displaying a patronizing attitude.

Not all Christians would do that.

Not all Christians will say that phrase for they respect other people's faith with their beliefs.
