I know that it is to Catholics (though I knew a few catholic girls that took the pill just cause family planning is...not so accurate.) But in your opinion...do you think it's wrong?

Jesus M, what do you suggest? Only have sex when you want a baby? Try telling that to horny husbands.

Meg, a woman has a likelihood of getting pregnant any time during her cycle. That is where family planning fails.

Becky, the least likely time you are able to get pregnant in your cycle is the first 72 hours after your period ends, after that, the risk escalates. The two weeks before your period is most of the time when women ovulate (varies woman to woman of course) is the most likely time. So the week after is your safest time, but it's not safe at all.

I'm a convert to Catholicism, and I believe what the Church teaches. BTW, NFP IS accurate. Even Planned Parenthood admits that "NFP is 97-99% effective for avoiding pregnancy when used exclusively."

Birth control is not wrong - in it's most effective and powerful health preserving form its called ABSTINENCE before marriage. The pill - is a way that allows you to if you want - cheat your future husband out of your virginity and build relationships based on lust and sex rather than commitment and sacrifice. Instead of building character that makes a marriage last - you're building sexual skills and conquests that do nothing to hold a relationship together in the long term. The pill is not wrong - some women take it because it helps clear up their skin, others fear getting raped. If an individual is using the pill to make it so they can have sex with whomever they wish and not get pregnant - they are missing some important facts. Just because you don't get pregnant doesn't mean that non-commital sex doesn't have negative consequences that are much worse than getting pregnant. Condoms and pills do not prevent the spread of infectious diseases and are only a percentage effective in avoiding things like venereal warts, mono, syphillis, herpes, and HIV. You're also enjoying a bond with another person that will have negative emotional consequences as well especially for women who are more emotional about it. So many women get depressed and feel so helpless - come on - be a true woman - be strong - think abstinence. Taking the pill is not wrong - but if you're using it thinking that it's "protection" you've got it all wrong.

Yea I agree with everyone else who said it's not wrong. Much better solution then abortion and as long as it's taken on time each month or whatever method you use, then you should be good. I have used the patch and it worked great! Plus, if you have insurance, I think it's quite a bit cheaper then condoms.
Also an FYI, I couldn't give you exact timing or anything but I know it's near impossible to get pregnant right around your period. I believe like 15 days after the first day of your period is when you are more likely to get pregnant. Something like that. Not sure if that is completely correct but I believe so. Just nice to know. :)

No birth control is not wrong . The wars of of this century will be caused by too many people living on this planet. As the the Third World emerges from the 19th Century they will of course need a greater percentage of finite resources to raise their standard of living. If those needed resources aren't available through peaceful means non peaceful means will be used.
The absolute last thing we need on this frail blue marble that we all call home is more people.
As our population increases our standard of living will decrease.
So birth control is not only right but it's also necessary for the common good.

Dear Lorraine,
First let me say that there is no biblical teaching in regards to the usage of birth control. There is clear biblical teaching regarding pre-marital sex- so the Bible is clearly not ok with people using birth control for that purpose- although i guess if people were to have pre-marital sex using birth control would be better than not.
The Bible does teach that part of a healthy marriage is for a husband and wife to enjoy sex with one another. In fact God is the one who designed sex- although He clearly teaches it to be something that should be between one man and one women in the context of a marriage.
Some people will try to portray the Church or Christians as "Archaic" and suggest that married couples should only have sex to pro-create- but then are we assuming that the couple at church with one kid- has only had sex once over the course of a 15 year marriage? That would not be healthy. If Jesus teaches fidelity in a marriage- that would be awfully difficult i would imagine if the only purpose of sex was to pro-create.
i think using birth control for married couples as they plan their family accordingly is prudent and there is no biblical teaching against it- regardless of whatever a priest, or whomever may say-- have them show you a Scriptural basis if they take such a position.
Hope that helps. Kindly,
Nickster

If condoms or wrong, so is the pill, of course the reason for that is really old and backwards and it leads to unwanted children, starvation, poverty, crime, etc.
I think that moral it is fine, as it in no way ends a life (as pro-life people hate) but prevents fertilization like a condom, but more comfortably

I think it is right today. there is so many children starving to death, sold as slaves and abused by adults that for some children it would have been better they were never born. we are too many already, nature is suffering a great deal because we cannot feed all the inhabitants of the planet. uncontrolled birth might be good for the catholic church as there are more people joining the church because poor, uneducated people are prone to believe in any church that feeds them to keep them in line.

No it is not wrong. It is better to be safe than taking the risk of having an unwanted pregnancy. They invented condoms, the pill, and sexual protection for a reason.

absolutely not!!! Birth control is the RESPONSIBLE decision when it comes to sex. As many say with abstinence only sex ed, 'they're just going to do it anyway' - and this is why birth control is so important. It prevents hundreds of illegitimate babies from unprepared moms.
If men needed it, it would be covered by insurance too.
