Well they can test the blood to see if the virus is there, they dont have to swab a sore. And you can ask to be tested too. The thing is that it can lay dormant in your system for years and some people can "shed" the virus with out even having symptoms. Which goes to show you, always use protection!!! Spermicidal foams and jellies may offer additional protection but nothing is fail safe esp if the sore are not on the shaft. You can look up great info on herpes.com . I use it all the time to reference cause I get cold sores from time to time. But the thing is their advice seems slightly fear based. I really think it just depends on the person and how the virus reacts in their system, so dont get freaked out or overwhelmed by what they say. Chances are if you haven't come in contact with a sore you are probably fine but you just never know, its such a tricky virus. Oh and I should add it is estimated to affect some 80 million people in America. At least one in five adults in the United States has genital herpes. And Herpes of the mouth can be transferred to the genitles and vice versa. I think many people have it and dont know it or dont realize that that's what cold sores are!!! Or they are just in denial....
My husband has never had a cold sore, but I get them. I'm just careful not to kiss him when I have symptoms and this has worked so far, but it could just be dormant in him too.....

Well, I wouldn't touch it without a raincoat. Herpes is notoriously hard to culture and confirm in a male, unless there is an active lesion to swab and culture. Even then it seems to be hit or miss. Genital herpes doesn't seem to cause many problems for guys, unless they develop warts- which are removed fairly easily. It's the women who suffer most, and by the time you find out, the damage is already done. There is no way to be absolutely certain he doesn't have it, and the only way to keep yourself safe is to use a condom every single time. If you are exposed, it can take a while before you show any signs, if you ever do. Usually the first clue most women have is when the pap smear comes back showing changes, or the culture comes up positive. By then, there's already a chance damage has been done, and you are in for a long road of extra pap smears and treatment. So protect yourself. Either don't have sex, or at least use a condom. Every single time, even for oral sex.

I would NOT take the chance! Go talk to a Dr. cause I don't know but maybe it just take a while to come out on a test and by the commercials I see about that even if he shows no signs he can still give it to you.

Do you have the results on paper? Men lie sometimes, so do women. I would have him and you both get tested together, and force each other to see results, no hiding them. Go to the free clinic or planned parenthood. Don't trust anything, he might be telling truth, but somethings don't show right away, test a few times, AIDS doesn't show right away either.

Hmm..I'd be more cautious. Sometimes stds can lay dormat for a very long time. Years and decades even. Plus I hope you were there when he got his results, cause you never know if he's lieing or not. If you do decide to do something use protection...

He may have the virus in his system, just not the symptoms that allow a doctor to diagnose it properly. You won't die from genetal herpies, but there is no cure. Unless you are prepared to have this disease and the resulting blistering, pain and scarring, do not have sex with him. There are no guaranteed ways to ensure you do not contract the disease.
