I know this country needs to work on it's immigration policy and the enforcement of those laws.

However since when does talking about immigration reform give people the right to use racial slurs?

Linda L- I am talking about all forms of racial slurs. It doesn't matter who it comes from a racial slur is a racial slur.

Immigration reform in America has always had racism at its roots. In the early 19th century the signs read "No Irish need apply". and the Irish (the first official immigrant group ) were seen as sub human. Today the children and grandchildren of those same immigrants are the ones trying to prevent others from coming here.

Same for most immigrant groups they faced the same kind of racism. There was a whole political party called the Know Nothings. Maybe some people should form that party again today

I have been wondering the same thing. And I've been wondering if all these people who claim they're so tired of being "victimized" by "illegals" actually have been victimized. I can assure you that more immigrants have been victimized than US citizens -- there wouldn't be so many immigration benefits for immigrant victims if this wasn't the case (U, T, S visas, VAWA self-petitions, etc.)

Really THINK here. Who founded this country? We are a nation of immigrants. We have been from the beginning (even the Native Americans migrated here -- just much earlier and on foot). Immigrants have also historically been scape goats and hated. Italians, Jews, Japanese (they were put in concentration camps during the second world war). Now it's the Mexicans.

What would really happen to this country if it was even possible to suddenly deport everyone who's here illegally? We have low unemployment rates, so who would fill those jobs? What would happen to prices if employers all paid the rates that US citizens expect? Businesses would decline and more would just move abroad -- taking more positions away from us (the management positions).

Folks are being stretched to their very limits and sometimes they need to vent I suppose. Lately, I have heard very serious things come out of the mouths of the most tolerant, well educated and socially-loving people I've ever met. Why is there news video of an "America loving person" dragging the U.S. flag across the ground and walking across it? If I was trying to slide into the back door of a country illegally I would at least make friends along the way. I would not insult the citizens and the ones who have shed their blood and died protecting the freedoms given under that same flag he was destroying.

Sometimes I think people take hostile attitudes because it's what they hear from their friends/family/media and they just repeat it all. I posted an answer here to a question about illegal immigration a couple weeks ago and I got a bunch of "thumbs down" signs because I had attempted to be unbiased and objective about the whole issue. Other readers were apparently less than impressed with my attitude because it wasn't "angry" enough for them. Most of the other answers to that same question were extremely hostile. I think the whole immigration issue has really brought out the worst in some people. Like you, I know that illegal immigration s a huge problem, but I also know that it's much better to be rational about it than to just slam the illegals with insults. It won't solve anything.

And let's face it people, a bill WILL be passed which incorporates America's illegal immigrants into our society legally. Insults and hateful comments against them won't stop that. So why bother?

Also, I've never had one incidence in my life where an illegal immigrant has stolen from me, attempted violence against me, anything of that nature. However, I had had multiple instances where "legal" citizens of this country have stolen my credit information (and racked up charges under my name), broken into my house, and threatened bodily harm against me. In all of these incidents, the person was "white."

I'm not insulting white Americans. I'm just trying to make the point that "white" legal citizens of this country cause their fair share of misery here too. Mexicans can't be blamed for everything.

First off it is my god given right to say how I feel ! Second it is people like you that think all of I love the human race so much ,Can ever come up with is they said something bad ! What bullshi# We live on a real planet with real problems honey !! Not even to take in the fact that in 2 decades we will be smothering in our decay ! Look if you are talking about the wetbacks they have there own country let them help them selves . If they tried to work on there own country with the same time and will they have trying to sneak into this country , maybe they could have a half way decent place to call home ! And for a 5000 dollar fine for breaking the law no less international law Come on what a crop of **** . What would happen to you if you were to trespass here in the U.S. you would most likely get locked up But you can and will be shot in some part of this country !The reason for that is that is someone else land and that if you do not belong there they have the right to remove you at all cost ! I know you are saying what about the native Americans . That lost and that is the dogs of war . So that make me see a bit clearer If someone whats this land in my eyes that is fine But they are going to have to fight me for it I sure the hell not going to give it to them . Thank you P.S. And it is most likely people like you are the ones that want to take In God We Trust off the money too ? But when the **** hits the fan you will most likely be the first to God Help Me .

Most racist people are stupid and ignorant, most think all illegals are Mexicans cause they cross thru Mexico and then some say that everyones should go back to their country of origin, EX. Blacks to Africa and Mexicans to Mexico ( I heard this from a racist person), we should ask them, where they are going to go, cause they are probably not natives, for one most Hispanic are mixed with Spanish and French people and some others, in other words we are all immigrants, for example me I know my family's country of origin is Spain. Since I did my research.

Well, there's two things going on.

First, the racists--like all bigots--are bullies and cowards. So they make their remarks here where its safe.

Second--they are running scared. They've used the technical illegality of the immigrants as an excuse to spread hate and lies. When the immigrants can get legal status, it willl be see that most are just like any other immigrants--including these same racist's forebears--just ordinary people trying to make a better life.

And--many of these scum have been illegally profiting off the illegal status of the immigrants by paying subminimum wages and by not passing on the payroll taxes and other money due the government. They stand to lose al those illegal profits--and perhaps face jail time as they are exposed for the REAL criminals in this whole mess.

Funny you should mention this, I was listening to
Michael Savage today and he said the we would be
called racist. How did he know?

Actually I have not mentioned specific race except in one
answer where I referred to Mexican/American Border Agents
and a Mexican smuggler, but I don't believe that those are
racist remarks and neither is the term illegal immigrants.

Oh, kids...

There is a great difference between FREE SPEECH and HATE SPEECH.

To answer the question: those who feel the need to hurl racial slurs simply have no class! I give them all thumbs-down and ignore them most of the time.

1st Amendment - freedom of speech.

Pay no heed to those who can't speak civilly. Most are immature individuals who have nothing better to do than trash talk everyone and disrespect their opinions.

It's important to know, however, just because a few bad apples throw out the n-bomb or any other racial slur, it doesn't mean the rest of us Americans think the same. RACE has nothing to do with illegal immigration.. It's important everyone keeps that in mind. Race is one thing, racism is another.
