As a long time East Bay resident I think the City o' Berkeley could produce more energy by installing solar panels on their buildings and providing incentives and resources for residents to go solar.

Lest people think Berkeley is out in the middle of a field somewhere (vbg), home of UC Berkeley it is one of the most densely populated cities in California. That is it's not the biggest in size or populations just packed solid with people.

Cesar Chavez Park is also not the best place for a wind farm IMHO but the City o' Berkeley will probably do what they wanna do. I'm as progressive as they come but Berkeley is probably more interested in making a statement than being efficient.

Nearby Altamont Hills has a beautiful, productive and large wind farm well situated. It does double duty as open space and pasture for cattle. That wind farm should be expanded.

The wind turbines can rise up to 30 feet which really despoils the landscape. And you have to build LOTS of them just to produce a minute amount of energy. Surely, if they are going to construct the wind farms they could do it way out in the middle of nowhere, where the impact visually and environmentally would not be as great?

And yes, birds do collide with the structures and waste energy trying to avoid them. And if winged predators such as hawks and owls begin avoiding the project site, the rodent population could increase.

they should build wind farms but not where people enjoy the outdoors. In a city parks are important for kids to play, walk dogs, or just relax. They should build wind farms in vacant land that communities do not use for recreation
