RIGHT ON.... Someone like me.... I do recycle for the EARTH And all, but mostly to supplement my income... I am serious. I am a "hippie" but what else can you go around and collect, off the street, outta the trash... And get some $$. I do what I do to get extra $$..To get by month to month..
So I save them at home... and at work I walk thru the office, usually later in th e day, and just look to see whats in peoples trash, I don't dig.. Just laying there I can grab 4 or 5 recyclables in 1 walk thru..
Some of the nice folk bring them to me..
I rinse them out, so when I go to recycle its not as sticky..
peAce out mama!!

Depending on when you do this might be considered unprofessional/suspect for you to be digging through the trash, although I'm sure that your co-workers are smart enough to shred any sensitive material you realy don't want the temptation to find these papers nor do you want everyone to be suspicious of you. So just have a little talk with the people in your office. Good luck.

Well, I don't dig through their trash cans but I do ask my co-workers to toss their cans and papers into the boxes I have set aside for recycling. At $0.70/lbs., it's really not about the money but more about doing what I can to be environmentally friendly.

Though I admire your commitment to recycling, depending on where you work, it might be considered a little unprofessional to be digging through others' trash. You might get better results by setting up a recycling bin for your office then sending out an email to let everyone know about it. Its better to teach people to fish than to give them a fish!

I have a neighbor who does it. She keeps on trying to recycle my water bottles. The problem is they are the corn based ones and it will destroy the other plastics if they are put through the recycling process. Now I have to go out to the bin and pull out all of them the day before recycling day. Sometimes you need to talk to the person before you start soring through their trash.

Kudos to you for giving this Earth a chance.I do about the same thing. We buy trash can liners and put them in the cans across the street in a parking lot. When the potato shed is going the people take their breaks right there,we change the bag twice a day.Just rotate the same big bag.Money we get goes to our grand kids some gifts...

Since there is no recycling program where I work, I take my stuff home to recycle, but our custodian goes through the trash to pull out cans and plastic. I am a recycling fanatic. It doesn't take any extra energy to throw it into the proper container.

I think that's great! Maybe you could get your employer to give each employee a real small recycleables can for their cubicle or workspace. Maybe they'd get less lazy, and saves you the time of digging for the recycleables.

Well, why not. As long as you are not lecturing the people on being lazy. Helping the Earth does not mean to then turn around and be rude to other people about what they are doing. Helping and being friendly is one thing. So that would be the only way it would both me. You're doing a good thing, so why not.

Provided that no one is complaining about you going through their trash, I think it's great that you are taking it upon yourself to make sure that everything recyclable is recycled. Every little bit counts!
