Soy milk is an acquired taste...not everyone digs it.
If you were drinking 1% or 2% cow's milk before this, I suggest Rice Milk (by rice Dream). It's delicious. The consistency is much like 1% or 2% milk and it tastes really light (as opposed to soy milk that can sometimes taste thick).
Some people like almond milk. I've tried that before and it was a bit too gritty for me...though the flavor was great on my cereal.
I used to drink soy milk, but now I drink rice milk and I'm totally happy.
Good luck!

When I was trying to switch, I found that I preferred rice milk and almond milk, as they have a very different texture and don't try to be like cow's milk. But I only ever used milk on cereal anyway, so I don't drink milk substitutes by the glass. Later, I found that I started to prefer soy over the others.

My favorite in the States was Vitasoy light vanilla flavor. Yum. My ex really liked EdenSoy
In the UK, Alpro is okay for taste, but I would rather find a brand without all the additives that I don't have to trek across London to find in a specialty shop.
All the brands have their own taste, and lots of people find that it's not soy milk they don't like, but a particular brand.

I don't buy Silk cause it's owned by Dean Foods. Plus it has carrageenan in it, which can upset your stomach. Although I have to admit that Silk Nog is really tasty....

My mom has been a long time hater of soy milk, but she recently tried WestSoy's unsweetened and drinks it all the time now. Go figure she'd pick the beaniest of the bunch. :-)

I actually love drinking Trader Joes brand vanilla soy milk.. I can't really drink plain, b/c it frankly does tasts awful.. But try silk if you like chocolate it actually tastes like chocolate milk.. umm but also their vanilla is very good also.. try to stay away from westsoy (it is 100% awful) There is always rice dream also... You can have horchata rather then soy and also almond milk, oat milk. Hopefully I helped ya out!!
here are some recipes for what I listed above:

Horchata:
1 cup rice, washed
2 quarts water
1 cinnamon stick
Sugar to taste
Mix together all ingredients; let stand 3 hours. Simmer for 1/2 hour. Puree in a blender and strain through a cloth. Taste for sweetness and add sugar if necessary. Chill and serve over ice.

I like rice milk, but it's not thick like real milk or some soy milks. I've generally found that the soy milks that are refrigerated taste a lot better than the kind that are in boxes and not refrigerated. Brands like Silk or Sun Soy, or 8th Continent taste good. I also prefer vanilla to plain.

8th continent is a good brand. I dont drink soy milk straight, since when I did have dairy in my diet I didnt drink milk straight as well. I thought it was awful so I guess thats a natural reaction for me..My boyfriend however loves 8th continent and says silk is horrible. Ill take his word for it. The cocoa we make is very good.:) We also use the Safeway Brand Organic Soy milk. No complaints here.

Compared to most soy milks I have tasted, 8th Continent has a very tasty light vanilla soy milk, it's the only kind I can drink straight from the carton (if I had to). I usually add Carnation breakfast drink mix to soy milk though. If it matters to you, it's endorsed by Bob Greene, Oprah's buddy.

My mom enjoys Rice Dream rice milk. It's pretty good, a little more 'watery' than milk, but not a strong taste.

It depends on what you like. I like the organic unsweetened variety as the vanilla and sweetened ones are too sweet for me. There is also almond milk and other things like that you could try.

I'm wondering what the standards are for labeling milk as organic or without antibiotics, etc. as I would assume there is government regulation of that, although I'm sure some slip through the cracks. Have you done any research into that?

yea, soy milk is wonderful in tea or porridge. The brand does not matter so much as the flavor. I would recommend either vanilla or chocolate, but never plain.

I stopped drinking soy and eating soy, because of all the stuff that's being said about it (google).

I make my own Rice Milk, and Nut Milk (almonds the best) Look it up on www.recipezaar.com

I hate soy milk (chocolate is a little better) but rice milk is a lot milder tasting to me and tastes pretty good. I've also heard almond milk is good.
