I find this to be a really nice marinara sauce...
1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
1/4 medium onion, diced (about 3 tablespoons)
4 cloves garlic, sliced
3 (28-ounce) cans whole, peeled, tomatoes, roughly chopped
3 sprigs fresh thyme
1 small bunch fresh basil, leaves chopped
2 teaspoons kosher salt
Freshly ground black pepper
Heat the oil in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Saute the onion and garlic, stirring, until lightly browned, about 5 minutes. Add the tomatoes with about half of their juices (discarding the rest), the herb sprigs and basil and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered for about 25 to 30 minutes or until thickened.
Remove and discard the herb sprigs. Stir in the salt and season with pepper, to taste. Serve or store covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 2 months.
Enjoy!

If you think packaged dried spaghetti tastes "nasty" then try looking in the deli case at you local store for a refrigerated, "fresh" pasta. These will "cook" in a matter of seconds, and will absorb flavors from any sauce a little more readily.
Toss the noodles with olive oil before adding the sauce... that might help some.

Any good cooking starts with good quality ingredients, being an avid foodie, I have tried many different brands o pasta and over the years the best one I have eaten is one called Barilla and it might cost a little more but it is well worth it.
Sauces are as varied as the number meat and veggies available and the combinations of them. A good non tomato sauce is to fry some chopped onions until transluscent, add a punnet of sliced mushrooms, and some chopped garlic saute them until soft, let the juices flow out of the mushrooms, then add cream, let it bubble away the add chopped parsley and serve.... then top with some real parmigiano reggiano mmmmmmm
This is making me hungry, hope this helps

Basic and aphrodisiac: garlic & red hot pepper. Cook your spaghetti (I prefer linguini) according to instructions. In the mean time chop up some garlic and fry it up along with the pepperoncino (slowly) in olive oil. Do not let it burn. The garlic should be almost crunchy.
Drain the pasta, serve in a bowl and spoon the oil mixture over... add salt if needed.

Ask freinds for a good recipie. You can cook with freinds togther! That is much fun.
I am from germany, and in germany my friends and i cook together, and this is much fun!
And together is better than alone!
If your freinds also can't cook spaghetti, you can go to a book.shop and ask for a good book with italia-recipies!
Much fun- from german girl! :-)
