It is usually carried out under local anaesthetic. but if you are not too keen about this, you can have a sedative before the procedure is done.

The answer to your question is YES, because an angioplasty is a medical procedure in which a balloon is used to open narrowed or blocked blood vessels of the heart (coronary arteries). It is not considered to be a type of surgery. The procedure starts with the patient lying on a padded table. Local pain medicine is given, and the catheters are then inserted in an artery (usually near the groin). The patient is awake for the procedure, but pain medicine can be given as needed.

The patient is given a mild sedation to undergo angioplasty. This is a common procedure in the hospital, where many are done on a daily basis. Usually the patient is capable of going home within 6 hours after the procedure is completed.

Yes you can. In fact, it's usually carried out under local anaesthetic.

The instruments (balloon or stents) are normally inserted into the femoral artery (in the inner thigh) and guided to where the procedure is to take place.

It takes just a matter of hours before you are well enough to go back home, and that's usually to make sure that you don't have any adverse reaction to the procedure.

If you refer to opening the chest and removing and replacing coronary arteries, NO. Some balloon procedures and stint insertions can be done with sedation only.

Yes but it's not recommended to be done that way. OMG.

You'd want some light sedation and some pain relief.
