he can go to the doctor and pee in a cup. within 5 minutes, the doctor will know if it's a UTI. you should both have full STD workups UNLESS neither of you has had another sexual partner.

Unfortunately, men can UTI's too. It is less common, but not impossible. The symptoms are the same as a woman's; the pain or burning, the sudden urge with little output and the swelling, crampy pain in the lower abdomen. It is possible that you passed it onto him, but because a woman urethra is shorter, the bacteria gets to her bladder and kidneys faster. He may have given the bacteria to you and had no symptoms at that time. It is treatable the same way, an antibiotic and those cool little pills that turn your urine orange!
Although I am not a beer fanatic, it is true that drinking as little as half a can of regular beer will help kill the bacteria and flush it out. Have your husband try that, and increase his water intake. Caffeine can also cause UTI's because without enough water, the kidneys cannot push out the bacteria and if they do, it is likely to settle in the bladder.
Until you can get him to a doctor, drink the beer, drink the water. Try the beer every other day if it takes more than a week to see the physician. Even though it sounds painful, I try to stop myself from going to the restroom until I know for sure that it is going to be a fair amount of urine, so when the pain comes, it comes all together, instead of every 10 or 20 minutes.

Yes, they certainly can. As you surmised, though, they are much more common in women.
No, a urinary tract infection is not contagious (except when it is actually gonorrhea or chlamydia = an STD). Rather than dismissing that possibility outright, have him see his doctor for a proper diagnosis -- a simple history, physical exam and a urine test is all that it takes. Then the appropriate antibiotic can be prescribed, as needed.
When a man has a UTI, some investigation is often undertaken to ensure there is no anatomical defect -- so a renal ultrasound and a voiding cystourethrogram may be performed later.

Men can get urinary tract infections but they can also get prostate infections (prostititis) which have similar symptoms--pain with urination, burning, frequency, tiny amounts etc. Anyone with an infection of the lower (bladder & below) urinary systems needs to get treated because it can travel to the kidneys (fever, lower back pain, vomiting) and that can be dangerous. Meanwhile really hydrate--lots of fluids 64 oz of water (clear liquids, no alcohol) and azo-cran pills (or cranberry juice), treat any fever with tylenol etc.

Yes, it happens but not that often as women. Have him book an appt with the doctor or a urologist. He'll be prescribed antibiotics. When i have one, I sit on the toilet with a big bottle of cranberry juice until I can get to the doctor. It eases some of the burning. But still go to the doc so it doesn't spread, i've had that and landed in the hospital for a week. Good luck!

Men get urinary tract infections just like women. It is a litle more difficult because the uretha which carrys out the urine from the bladder is longer. He needs to see a dr. and get treated.

It is possible to transmit a UTI to your husband. If he is not treated, you stand a chance of re-infection. He should see a doctor, who can rule out other problems or diseases. Consider a condom with intercourse until he sees a Doc. Good Luck.
