CFL bulbs may seem expensive or just a fancy type of light bulb, but they WILL help you in the long run. Changing all your bulbs in your house can save you hundreds or even thousands of dollars a year for electricity costs. Light bulbs use up a lot of power and most of it comes out as a heat. CFL bulbs are much more efficient and does not waste this power.

There are a few reasons to go with the cfl bulbs. One reason is for the same output of light you will use less energy. Another being you will not have to replace the bulb for quite some time as they last alot longer than traditional bulbs. A great reason for me to use the cfl on my front and rear porch lights was because when the door was slammed, the filament in the traditional bulb always broke, thus the lightbulb blew. Since changing over to cfl, that has yet to happen. I started replacing my bulbs with cfl's a little over a year ago when they were 3 times as much money as you can find them now. Even then, I felt they were worth the money! Save on your electric bill throughout the year if you buy them for no other reason!

Definitely not a rip-off. We put in CFL bulbs 2.5 years ago and haven't had to replace any yet.
Stats say CFLs typically have a life span of between 8,000 and 15,000 hours, whereas incandescent lamps are usually manufactured to have a life span of 750 hours or 1000 hours. Not sure how many years that equates to, but I've read it's as much as 5 years and could be more.
In addition to saving long-term on the cost of bulbs, you also save on your energy bill because CFL bulbs are more energy efficient than incandescent bulbs.

Compact Flurescent Bulbs (CFL) are a great investment. It may seem like they cost more money than regular bulbs - however, they DO really save you a lot on your electricity bill. I have changed all of my bulbs in the house to CFL bulbs, and am unplugging things that are not being used and am saving a bundle on electricity now! I highly suggest doing that as well as going with the CFL.

They use less energy and in the summer time it doesn't heat your house up as much as regular bulbs so if you have AC it doesn't have to work as hard. They are just a really good option. you can get 6 for $10 at Walmart. We really like ours! I am slowly changing all of my light bulbs over to those. As my other bulbs go out I replace with the CFL Bulbs. No sense wasting the light bulbs I have!!

They may be a more expensive original cost as I believe the expensive ones can be up to $12 each. They last a LOT longer however and also reduce your power bill. My husband and I are in the process of switching over bit by bit. We have one bulb that has been going strong since 2003. Our electric bill went down drastically with the addition of each new bulb though. We went from $60 a month in our apartment to only $23. Some months it's even lower and they don't bother to send us a bill until they send a 2 month bill the next month.

Just don't use these bulbs in a situation where you can dim the lights, they can't handle it and burn out really fast. If you really want to save some energy and have a light that lasts seemingly forever, invest in LED bulbs. They are a little more up front, but emit less heat, use less electricity, last longer, and can handle any lighting situation (dim, flash, full on, long use).

I have these bulbs in my living room, bed rooms and bathrooms and have been using them for about a year and I see a decrease on my bill for about $15 a month, I also keep the lights off during the day , God put the sun on earth for a reason let's thank him for this brightness.

They are NOT a ripoff. I personally changed just four in my house thats it. four, ( out of about 8 different lamps, etc.) my electric bill dropped 30 dollars in just a month and a half of using them. The best thing is when you make a purchase of these most manufactorers give you a few year guarentee. If they happen to burn out take them back to where you got them, or call the 1800 number on the box, and you can get a replacement,
