How can I combine my public speaking skills with my passion for renewable energy?

Start small and practice what you preach.

Start asking to speak in front of your local homeowner's associations and civic organizations and work up from there. Those are the types of folks in the audience, even if you move on to larger groups that you are going to need to connect with - not people where you are "preaching to the choir"

To get paying gigs, you have to prove that you are an authority or knowledgeable on the subject and are an entertaining speaker and aren't just putting together highlights of the speeches of others or spitting back documentaries at them. What can someone do on an individual or neighborhood level - because if you just talk about what a country or city should do, you are not going to engage your audience because they have heard it all before and might not feel invested in it. It is just something that will or will not happen on a large scale and the individual feels a little powerless or detached from the matter.

Also, keep in mind that there is a lot of idealism out there, and if you can be "real" and also demonstrate and talk about things that you do as an individual or as a family that makes a difference or some concrete examples of real people then you are going to win more fans.

In spite of all the rude answers, there is one very easy way. Contact schools in your area, in particular the science teachers, and volunteer your services. They are always looking for people to talk about things pertinent to their classes. So, give them a list of subjects you are familiar with and let them contact you when their class(es) are studying those subjects. You can also call the Principal or one of their Assistants or counselors with the same information. Your comfort zone with children will dictate the grade level you wish to speak to. Another option is co check with local churches; they often have a need for speakers outside their congregations for womens' or mens' groups meeting in the evenings or weekends.
