You can do a search online for climbing ropes, but I found a pretty good deal on a rope at REI.com and it came to the store in only a few days. It was less than $100.

Ask your local climbing shop to order it in for you.

Why static rope? The whole shockloading issue is concerning to me, even when rappelling. Make sure your anchors are excellent!

BTW, rappelling on it's own is a true redneck sport! That said, I know a couple great climbers who started out rappeling. Statistically, it is the most dangerous part of climbing, because you are relying on only one point of protection.

rapelling: how you get down when you can't walk.....

I've never met a climber who would hang anywhere near someone who was sport rapelling, lots of folks get hurt doin this but they are rarely climbers who get hurt.

beyond that you could get gear from either REI or mountain gear, they both have websites, do a search...
