There are over 120 different kinds of HPV; about 30 of them are sexually transmitted. Only a handful of those 30 kinds can actually cause genital warts. Not every kind of HPV will cause genital warts.

I have had HPV for 6+ years. I have a kind of HPV that causes genital warts because I developed them about a year ago. I had them treated and I haven't had them since.

If a person has HPV they don't automatically have genital warts. They have to have a kind of HPV that causes them in order for them to develop genital warts.

not everyone forms genital warts. hpv has 100 different strains that can cause other health problems or skin changes. i have hpv. i found out last year sept. i didnt have any warts untill about 2 weeks ago. she could either have the one that causes cervical cancer, warts, or nothing at all. the virus usually clears on its own in most cases (cures itself) from your immune system responding. when i say in most cases, if there is hiv present, your immune system obviously isnt gunna fight it off or if your just not healthy and smoke. tell your friend that she needs to follow up on every appt. because if it it the cervical cancer type, it could be prevented years before it turns into cancer. hey, for the hell of it, go get checked too.

Since HPV is a virus, it has many different strains. Some strains cause genital warts and others can cause cervical dysplasia. Many women's immune systems can fight the HPV virus on it's own. I'm not really sure if the immune system does the same for men.

There are many strains of this virus. Type 6 and 11 usually cause genital warts. Other types have different symptoms. Some types are known for the cause of cervical cancer in women and new research is now saying some strains of HPV are responsible for some oral cancers.

There r many different strains of HPV.The one ur friend describes is very dangerous as it can cause cervical cancer. So,no, she is not lying and u don't have to be promiscuous to get this STD.U can have sex with an infected person and they don't even know they r infected. It takes months sometimes years for actual warts to appear on the skin so some people may have it and they don't know as they spread it around. It is very important that your friend gets pap smears every 6-12 months to avoid cervical cancer.

it is possible to have HPV without having warts. this doesn't mean she can't/won't develop them at a later date. warts can sometimes appear years after the initial infection. but then again different strains of hpv affect different people in different ways.

HPV can cause warts just like you wrote above. it doesn't mean that the patient will have warts. it does mean that unprotected sex will continue to spread the highly contagious virus that has no cure.
