Find something else to obsess about. The athelete that died, obviously had issues he was unaware of....his time was up. If you think about it, you will realize that you have done all you can to make sure this doesn't happen to you....so give it up and stop worrying about it, worry won't change a thing and will only affect you badly (like you can't sleep), why do such a thing to yourself? You keep obsessing about it, you will create a self fulling prophecy, and the stress from all that worry will eventually cause what you fear most.

Very physically fit people who just collapse and die is rare and typically it's due to a heart problem that was never diagnosed in their life. Sometimes they just have no signs/symptoms previously or if they do they ignore them as small things. Sometimes it's a very severe electrolyte imablance that can cause cardiac dysrythmias and ultimately death which is why gatorade is good for exteme physical activity (like a marathon, triathalon, etc). If your EKG is fine, you're fine. Don't worry about what happens to less than 5 people in the world yearly.

You might check out articles on anxiety and obsessive thoughts. It sounds like you might have a general anxiety disorder if this one article is effecting your life so drastically, even if you have every resource saying you are just fine. Have you ever had any other instances where you became fixated on an idea or fear and lost sleep, changed activities, became highly agitated, or changed the way you were livign your life because of that thought fixation? If yes, you might want to talk to your doctor about taking some anti-anxiety pills or some therapy.
