Aside from the deadly mushrooms, what would happen if you were to have a strict diet of only edible mushrooms for say like 3 or 4 weeks?

There's carbs and protein and fat and fiber in mushrooms, as well as vitamins and minerals, and if you were able to eat enough of them, you could probably survive just fine on them for that length of time. A problem would be boredom, even with the handful of varieties that are commonly available, so you might not be able to sustain eating enough of them to meet all your caloric needs. If that happened, you'd likely lose some weight, and their might be some consequence from getting too little vitamins and minerals.

Sounds like a fad diet to me, were you thinking of doing this to try to lose weight? It might work for that, but don't expect any of that weight to stay off once you go back to your normal eating habits. A more rational approach to health and diet is probably advisable.

Why would you do that? One thing to keep in mind is that even some edible mushrooms (I'm talking about the wild varieties here) have low levels of toxins that mean you shouldn't eat too many of them. Also, mushrooms are very low in calories, so your body would probably go into starvation mode, and when you began eating normally again, your metabolism would be off. You'd be missing out on a lot of important vitamins and minerals. For example, not getting vitamin C on a regular basis can cause your gums to bleed and you can develop cracks at the corners of your mouth.... I don't even know why I'm answering this, cause it's a really silly question....

You would have less energy due to a lack of important vitamins and proteins. Why would you even think about doing this? Mushrooms really don't have much for nutrition. A strict yoga diet doesn't even have mushrooms, so there has to be something wrong with them. What, I don 't know. Everything (vegan) in moderation is good.

I would be an extremely happy person indeed. Mushrooms are very creepy though, I've only just learned how they are grown commercially.

In my uneducated opinion I think you may be ~okay~ if your diet was relatively healthy, it wouldn't be too much of a shock to the system. I believe the human body adapts very easily to diet.

Don't listen to me though, under any circumstance, this doesn't sound very promising and it's worrying me a bit!

Why do you ask? :)

I'm vegan, but I wouldn't recommend it. But with a safer vegetable, it's not dangerous.

Most people turn a deaf ear to this, but people can go 4 weeks with NOTHING. So eating 1 thing won't cause damage.
What would happen? You'd start craving other things for variety. And get a good detox. I recomend 1 week. But find out the right way to do it beforehand.

if you love mushrooms and can't get enough of them, how about just adding them to other foods and meals you eat? that way you will be have a variety of food, be getting other nutrition and vitamins you need, and still having mushrooms as often as you like. otherwise you would probably be very mal-nutritioned and get very sick/weak if all you ate were mushrooms (or any one food for that matter).

A strict diet of any one thing for 3-4 weeks is not good for you--you won't be getting all the vitamins you need to survive--I'm sure you'll have a killer headache & weakness amongst other things..

Don't do it!

Mushrooms? Gross fungi!! Now if it were chips ahoy--I'd be on board!

Mushrooms are mineral dense, vitamin poor. If you were to couple it with broccoli which is vitamin dense, and some rice which has all amino acids and many minerals, you would have a complete nutrient make up.
