Why do you have to thaw meat before cooking? If its cooked from frozen thoroughly isnt that the same effect as defrosting it first? I recently got very bad food poisoning from cooking frozen bacon!

First of all, pork is known to be notoriously susceptable to carrying food bourne toxins.

However, in order to cook anything thoroughly, it first has to be thawed thoroughly. Fat and protein and water which are components of bacon thaw at different temperatures. So while you may have "cooked" some aspects of the frozen meat, other parts of it remained uncooked. Whatever toxins which would have been killed at higher temperatures, never got a chance to reach that bacteria killing point of heating. So, the bacon may have looked "cooked" to your eye and felt warm to your palate, but you swallowed the uncooked "cooties." by not thawing your meat first.

When you freeze meat.. the water present in the meat freezes as well. If you directly cook it, then by the time the outside will cook,.. the inside would have barely thawed. This is basically because when you heat frozen food the outside meat will loose its water content & the cooked protien would have changed form by then. This willl prevent further heat from penetrating within the meat & as more heat is exposed to the outside, the outside will char while the inside will still be raw. Hope this answers your question.

The bacon was probably bad before it was frozen.

Always read the "sell by" dates. If you do not use it fast enough freeze it "before" the sell by date.

I have cooked everything from frozen at one time or another, cooking from frozen will not make you sick. Spoiled meat or food will.

You need to rethink your cause of getting sick.

I will ask my meat next time I thaw it out??
