The USS Arizona was the second of two Pennsylvania-Class battleships, laid down in 1914 and commissioned in 1916, and received a major overhaul in 1931. It's primary armament was twelve 14" guns, in four triple mounts. It was striken from the record as war loss in 1942, and has lain as a memorial ever since. Shortly after Pearl Harbor, the superstructure was removed, and most of it is in a scrap yard on the island. The guns were also to be removed, but one of the 14" turrets is still there, for reasons unknown. Check out this website for the Arizona, and pretty much every other US navy vessel of the 20th century.

The USS Arizona was sunk during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii with most of its crew still on board. It marked the beginning of America's entry into WW2. The USS Arizona is now a national shrine and one can visit it.

Go to wikipedia. She was a Pennsylvania Class battleship. She was made of an impressive amount of steel and wood, carried a devastating armament, and had a dedicated and courageous crew.
She was sunk during a sneak attack that commenced fully 30 minutes before the declaration of war was delivered. Her crew accounts for 30% of the American dead in the Battle of Pearl Harbor.

She is one of three US ships that are still Commissioned but no longer serving actively.
the other two are the USS Pueblo, being held by North Korea as a 'war prize' and the USS Constitution, our oldest ship of the Line.

I know that since December 7, 1941, it has rested at the bottom of Pearl Harbor in the Hawaiian Islands and that it is a national monument and the place of entombment of more than 1,100 American sailors. I know very little of its history prior to December 7, 1941.
