I recently purchased a Rottweiler dog from my sister who is expecting a child soon and as her Rott hasn't been socialized with kids, she wanted to give her to me as I'm moving from Florida.
She is a beautiful, AKC registered Rottie who I wanted to show and possibly breed with my friend's Rott who is moving with me. Even if I don't breed Charlotte, I would still like to show her.
Is it still possible to dock her tail and crop her ears now? The ears aren't a huge deal but I would definitely like to dock her tail ASAP. I don't WANT to dock the tail as I personally don't agree with it but the AKC breed standard says it must be done.
Is it too late to have her tail docked and/or ears cropped?
* Just an additional question regarding cropping the ears of a Golden Retriever - my friend owns a 5 month old Golden and she wants to crop his ears. Can the procedure be done on a Golden Retriever or not? Don't ask me WHY she wants to - she just wants to, even though he is beautiful now.

Another question do with docking tails - is it normal for the German Shepherd to have his tail docked or is it better to leave them as it is? Reason why is because my brothers' girlfriend is expecting her German Shepherd to give birth to her purebred litter in around 10 days so she was wondering if it was normal or not and if she should do it. She would rather not but if it's a normal act for the German Shepherd breeder to do, then she will. The dam has a natural tail but cropped ears and the sire has natural tail but cropped ears.
* Additional: with this litter, because the sire and dam both have cropped ears, will the puppies be born with cropped ears or do you need to do it again?

you can have the tail dock on the rottie at about 3 mo. of age by a vet. if you live in the USA. you do not crop ears on the rottie. look on the akc.org site for the standard on Rotties. You do not dock tails or crop ears on German Shepherds or Goldens Retrievers.

Forget about breeding her and get her spayed.
There is no need to dock her tail or crop her ears - they are both very painful and un-necessary operation. Although the breed standard of the Rottweiler says it must be docked, now is not the time. Docking of a dogs tail should be done before the age of 11 DAYS old.
Tell your friend she is an idiot for even considering cropping the ears of her Golden Retriever. That's just stupid.
With the German Shepherd litter, docking the tail and cropping the ears isn't necessary. No, the ears of the German Shepherd puppies will not "automatically" crop them self.

My suggestions? First, yes it's far too late to crop the ears & dock the tail. Docking should be professionally done at 3 ~ 5 days old & the ears are cropped between 7 to 10 weeks old. Second it is vital to match what the breeds needs in a home, to what you want from a breed. If all you want is a canine to guard property & not to be a companion who barks an alarm, then a decent burglar alarm system would be a better option.

Rottweillers do NOT have cropped ears!!!!! and YES it is too late to have the tail docked..it needs to be done by the time a puppy is 3 days old.
Golden Retreivers do NOT EVER have ears cropped.
German Shepherds do NOT have their tails docked nor do they have ears cropped!!
I sincerly hope this particular question is nothing more then a sick joke..if not then none of you should even be owning a dog much less breeding them!!!!!

If the dog was meant to have cropped ears and docked tail the Lord would have made them that way.

err.. are you serious about the golden retriever and german shephard???
and why would you want to dock and crop the rotti??
you need to research what happens to a dog during docking, and why its illegal in most countries, and why most good vets refuse to do it. Its an amputation, it causes permanent bowel and balance problems (because a tail is used to help open the sphincter), and they can have permanent pain from the operation.
be prepared for for the possibility of a big vet bill in 10 years time if you get the docking done.

Docking and ear cropping is increasingly banned because it is cruel and unnessicary. How would you like it if people chopped off part of your ears without your permission because they thought it would make you look better. If you don't agree with it stick to your guns and forget showing and encouraging this cruel practice.

I hope you understand from the responses you've had that to do this would be absolutely barbaric! Ask your friends what they think. You may not have any more friends if you brutalise your dogs this way!

Either type of mutilation is illegal in both my countries (UK and Australia) and you should NOT be allowed to do it. How about we hand the mutilation tools to the puppy and let it chop lumps off you? Vote, anyone?

Presumably you are American - and these practices are legal in a country where you are supposed to love dogs? Don't make me laugh.
