I am absolutely sure he knows already how proud you are of him, nothing more than a simple card with "i love you" in it more than does the trick.

I'm a prior service Air Force Sergeant and I've just signed up with the Army Reserves, what I think really affects the morale of the American Soldier is knowing there are common people, average Joes and Janes who appreciate the soldier's mission.
Partisans and politicians stick their finger in the air to feel the political winds to make their decisions, but to know everyday people understand why a military person goes to war, to defend liberties of others, whether ours or a friend's, that makes the sacrifice worth it.

I believe that your appreciation is more than enough. My husband is a Marine, little sister is in the Army and Brother in the Navy, they have all toured iraq, and appreciation for what they have done is all they want.

What my wife did while I was over there (SGT, US Army, Seperated) was to keep me informed of news back stateside in regards to protests, political bashings, and accusations, and then inform me what the other side was saying about the same issue, and well, basically let me vent and ***** about it, then tell me that no matter what happened or what is or was ever said, she stood behind me 195% for my decision (volunteered for deployment) and let me know she would never be swayed in the Liberal limelight. Her, being a moderate Democrat, wasn't for the war, but still understood where I stood, and therefore supported me.
You tell him that you are there, and never will leave him hang as what happened to many in Vietnam. You tell him that, and he will always know you are at his side. Even in a war zone, you will still be at his side.

I think you are doing fine. Believe it or not what you don't want to do is overdo it. Everyone appreciates a "thank you", or "I'm proud of you".

support him and his mission every chance you get, but you seem to be doing that now, get your friends or church to write letters to the GI's, nothin beats a letter from home when your away that long, send cookies and magazines, lots of pictures.
God Bless you and your soldier.

Just keep saying it. He'll never get tired of hearing it.
