There is no hard and fast rule about when to fast and pray. Fasting and prayer is, however, the key to spiritual power. When you subdue the flesh through fasting and spend time in prayer you build the muscles of the spiritual person. The stronger the spiritual person is the easier it is to put aside the cravings of the fleshly person and thus avoid sin.

I think you should make a date and do it a coupe times a year just because...it's good to feed the spirit and starve the flesh occasionally. Matter of fact I'm about due...thanks for the reminder!
I like to fast when there is something I'm really needing an answer too. I don't know that fasting for such a reason actually makes a difference but it definitely makes prayer more intimate. Just make sure you are praying when you fast. Fasting without prayer is dieting.
crystall from experience i would say every darn day!

Scripture does not command Christians to fast. It is not something that God requires or demands of Christians. At the same time, the Bible presents fasting as something that is good, profitable, and expected. The Book of Acts records believers fasting before they made important decisions (Acts 13:4; 14:23). Fasting and prayer are often linked together (Luke 2:37; 5:33). Too often, the focus of fasting is on the lack of food. Instead, the purpose of fasting should be to take your eyes off the things of this world, and instead focus on God. Fasting is a way to demonstrate to God, and to yourself, that you are serious about your relationship with Him. Fasting helps you to gain a new perspective and a renewed reliance upon God.
Although fasting in Scripture is almost always a fasting from food, there are other ways to fast. Anything you can temporarily give up in order to better focus on God can be considered a fast (1 Corinthians 7:1-5).

Actually, fasting can be good for your body, it allows it to clean itself out. Now if some of these people want to keep drinking 24 hours a day, well, they have their free agency. If they want to keep eating and gaining weight, more power to 'em.
If you want to fast a pray, you can do it any time you have an important decision to make or want to pray about something important to you.

A person should always pray.
As far as fasting is concerned, it is no longer necessary in our day. Christ is now King, therefore fasting would be pointless. Notice Mark 2:20 says, "But, days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast in that day." The bridegroom is Jesus, and when he was killed, it would have been appropriate to fast, but since he was resurrected and is now King, there is no need to fast.

Kait and Silver. Somebody's "cut and pasting" and not quoting their sources.
I've prayed with fasting and tears.
it does demonstrate at least to oneself that one is serious, sincere.
But I still got no reply and am now an atheist.

Fasting is not a way to get God to do what we want. Fasting changes us, not God. Fasting is not a way to appear more spiritual than others.
Read this: Matthew 6:16-18 "When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”
