I design high-end home theaters for a living. I also have a degree in Audio Engineering. I can without a doubt tell you Bose speakers are garbage. They are roughly equivalent to RadioShack brand speakers. Notice they are never put side by side with any other brand in the store? They always have their own separate display away from every other brand of speakers. They also refuse to publish frequency response charts for their speakers because they know how poorly they perform. If you're looking to spend that amount of money on a home theater audio system youre better off going with a system by Bowers and Wilkins (B&W). You can get a small system from them for around 1200. George Lucas uses them to mix and master all of his movies. In fact, about 70% of all movies you'll ever see were either mixed or mastered on B&W speakers.

A few things you need to understand. Home theater sound is actually different from music. And you listen to it a different way. This means you can get away with less-expensive, less-accurate speakers for movies. These speakers may not do great with music, but do well for movies. You want to find a set of monitor-style speakers and a self-powered sub for the corner. These are easier to setup and gives you a single source of bass. It also allows you to upgrade the sub later for a better movie experience. Polk, Martin Logan and Klipsch all have good reputations. Listen to them with music and decide what sounds best to you and buy that set. Bose tends to be a closed system with it's bass-module and has some rather sketchy business practices. Hope this helps.

Bose....in the world of audio...is junk!
and the other brand....is Nakamichi.
Nakamichi is FANTASTIC with their tape decks. Leave it at that..
For home theater....I would look into the following brands...
B&W
Definitive Technology
Legacy Audio
NEVER buy a speaker from a company that earned their reputation on electronic components..

Hi. Neither. Bose is not Hi Fi sound. Japanese speakers are too tinny. There are much better systems than those two at the same recommened retail price. And if you shop around you can get bargains .Trust me i have been listening to sound systems for over 40 years and i want you guys to have the best possible sound in your price range.Have a look at a couple of systems that will give you great sound. The KEF speakers are a bit more expensive than the KLIPSCH. The KEF are a smoother neutral type of sound with low coloration. The Klipsch are a bit brighter sounding so you should by the one you can live with.
These are only two examples of the many combinations available.
IF YOU REALLY MUST HAVE ONE OF THE SYSTEMS IN YOUR QUESTION THEN EITHER WILL DO.
KEF

Nakamichi has really losts it way and Bose is overrated and overpriced. Some of the others mentioned KEF, B&W, Klipsch, much better choices for a HT setup. Also check out Paradigm...

i have bose. they do sound great. but. they are far from top of the line. if i had $$$ i strictly use B&W speakers. however they are big $$$. they will put both to shame. both sound good but the construction of the bose speakers is more solid. also if you do decide to get bose just get the speakers and get a seperate receiver.
