I don't believe it is the disagreement with ones belief that causes one to think it is disrespect but the fact of how one disagrees.....some are polite and others are bashing ones beliefs....when done the right way no problem.....but everyone gets upset when something they hold dear to them gets ridiculed or bashed...after all we are all human....

Because religious (and to a certain extent political and other beliefs) come with a personal investment.

If you disagree with someone's beliefs they are very likely to take that as implying that they were foolish to have chosen such a belief.
It's difficult to avoid, if the issue is one of truth. One person being right *does* imply someone else is wrong. There isn't a way to give prizes to everyone.
(However much it is important to be tolerant of wide range of beliefs, for a variety of reasons.)

It comes on a spectrum. There are beliefs I do not share that I can have respect for. And there are some I think no thinking person should hold.
And that's going to be "fightin' talk", of course.

Because religion (religious belief) says that people are supposed to believe whatever they are told, without question even if it sounds ridiculous or has been proven wrong.
