I recently re-installed my operating system. I am running Windows XP Professional. I had to re-install coz I got BSOD, probably due to corrupt files. Everything went smooth, but for playing videos. I can no longer play videos on my computer. Whenever I try to, the comp freezes up. When I check the task manager, it shows 98 to 99 of CPU usage by the program that I'm using to open the video. This happens with any player. I downloaded different codecs thinking that its a codec problem. I've installed K-Lite too, but no go. Could anyone help me out with this? Thanks in advance!

Well.. The RAM doesn't seem to be an issue as I have 512 MB DDR RAM and 256 MB for the graphics card.. However I think I figured it out this evening.. I booted it up to the safe mode and found that it was working fine.. I then realized that it should be my NVidia GeForce 6200 graphics card drivers.. I updated it to the latest, but no go.. I also figured out that, incidentally I happened to keep my web cam plugged in during the installation, which might have caused this.. The solution as off now I guess is a re-installation.. Anything else, anyone can think of??

Okay I had the same probelm with the same video card from updating it to the newest version and i did this, Find your cd for your video card drivers, Run your computer in safe mode, and Run the cd, its important that you run it in safe mode becuz in normal mode your computer wont open up the cd it will just freeze the comp. install the old version and it will fix your problem.. The reason y when updating to the newer version i guess it messed up the drivers and the video controller hope this helps you... But in your case when you reinstall windows you gotta reinstall everything like your video drivers

Sounds to me like you need to add some RAM. If you have Win XP you need a minimum of 512 RAM, if you have Win Vista, 1gb RAM; even with pre-XP os i would recommend at least 512 RAM.

You can also use a ram recovery tool like free-mem, but best bet is adding more ram as well as running a free-mem type program.
