Only when they are faced with a life threatening situation.....
Easy tigers, just the same as the fundimentalists, atheists cannot handle anything or have a sense of humor about anything!

Well, some atheists prayed before they became atheists.
But, after people become atheists, they don't pray any more. Why would they? There's no point in talking to something that you do not believe exists.
It may come as a surprised to you, but atheists really don't think god exists. They think he's totally fictional. And so they don't even think of trying to talk to him; the very concept doesn't make sense.

I prayed a LOT when I was a Christian. Once I became an atheist, it well, seemed as reasonable as praying to Zeus would seem to you.
To be fair, on my way out of Christianity, well-meaning friends and family would challenge me to pray. I did this several times, even though I didn't believe. I did this to honor their request a few times, so technically I have.
But I've been through a lot since then, and when death happens or a health scare comes along --- asking god to do anything never crosses my mind.

When you say "once in his lifetime" you are assuming that an atheist is an atheist for their entire lifespan. I have questioned religion since I was about 8, but really declared myself an atheist around 14. Yes, I occasionally prayed when I was a child, usually when I needed help, but since I came to realize gradually that there is no God and that prayer is useless, I have not considered it even once.
The idea that all atheists will be deathbed converts and that they always run to God in times of trouble is inaccurate and an intentional lie.

I did pray for many years when I was searching for my personal truth. I never saw any result from prayer at all except my own frustration. I asked for peace, strength, understanding, etc.... never material things.
I do not pray now and haven't for years since disavowing the existence of a divine creator. It is mere words and I'd rather DO something to MAKE things happen. I know I have the power to make peace. I have strength and understanding, I just have to use it more often. There is no being who can do it for me.

I don't pray. I never really have. However, there are many people who become atheists later in life who have probably prayed to whatever god they previously believed in.
You also seem to be mistaking atheism for a religion, which it most certainly isn't. Atheists don't do anything by convention. There is no centralized atheist dogma. Not believing in god won't tell you how to live your life. It's just not a religion.

I have been an Atheist for several years. Many years back I considered myself a christian and attended church. When I prayed I would often feel a sense of calm and relief. I realize now that this was caused by a placebo effect. I get the same relief and or calmness when I meditate.

A person born into Atheism would most likely not pray. Why would they, they don't believe in God. So they can live without this quite easily, it just doesn't bother them as they don't feel they are missing out on anything, in fact some of them believe that it is you who misses out on life while you are in church.
I am not condemning either system, it is just fact.

I'm sure most atheists were indoctrinated as kids, so they've probably prayed at least a few times before they broke free of that.
But if someone can live without praying? Of course--why not?

Some have before they became Atheists, but those who never believed would not have prayed. If they believe that there is no God, who would they pray to?

I used to be Christian, but I don't believe in God, and haven't in 20 years. I was brought up in the Church, so of course I engaged in that ritual of magical thinking. I wonder if you have ever gone through a week without praying.... ever once in your life.
